at first i want to express how grateful i am to the guys who’re still with us after all these years. voodoo will turn four in the end of june and it took us this long before starting to form into the shape. some of course have been loyal to the values from the very beginning and it’s one of the reasons we’re such a good team today.

loke’s superior ‘falling’ starts a serie of classic tracks on voodoo. the idea is to pick one old track every now and then from our artists. these tracks are mostly from the former years of our artists music career, some even before they’ve teamed up with voodoo.

‘falling’ was composed already before, but first announced to public in 1996 by loke’s live performance in ‘metsä’ electronic music happening. this track was chosen as classic because it exposes different loke than you’ve used to as an voodoo artist. as full of hope and happiness as the track is, it sounds entirely unlike his usual tracks.it has bought it’s place in the classics.

after long pause i’m back to release something fresh. various things have happened during this break. quite soon after the last release (#055) and after i had written a complete track for voodoo, i lost the mod partition on my hd thus lost all my unfinished mods from almost 10 years time but also the finished track and those made by other people. that eventually changed my plans and caused some lack of motivation.

not all of the current news are bad. loke has recently moved to the same city than me and after his military service i hope we can come up with something common.

this time i’m presenting a new track by me that i had in mind ever since i listened to the last voodoo release ‘valkoinen’ by a/oc. it’s just so good track and i wanted to try achieving some of that mood by myself. well i’m not the one to judge, you are but i definately hope you like the track cos i think i found something else 🙂

Vim! – 8-Bitten, Break Smitten {mtk054}

Artist: Vim!
Title:
8-Bitten, Break Smitten
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk054
Release Date:
2001/05/28

The return of the spaced cowboy comes in the form of this newly minted Vim! track, with the UK artist fresh from his new Surgery album, “Linden – The Home Of The Hits”. And actually, this great track isn’t on that CD, since it’s a special, exclusive tribute to all those classic old .MOD instruments and instrumentals everyone used to adore, with a newskool spin on it – hence the name of the track.

So, if you’re digging the whole dumb drumbreak breaking things up a bit, plus the funked-up piano and bass weirdness making it all into a sorta neo-Squarepusher goes 1989 Soundtracker evolution, you’ll probably dig this track. Put it this way, nobody else is making music like this – they wouldn’t dare.

[Oh, for tracks which are on Vim!’s Surgery CD, try the excellent and earlier ‘Timecrunch EP’, and for tracklisting and future CD distribution info, try our artist news page..]

With all the mp3s Monotonik+friends have been releasing of late, sometimes people (including us!) forget about the 200+ .MODs we released from 1996-1999, all of which are still available on the Mono site!

Fortunately, US-based Luminfire hasn’t forgotten about the early house, techno, and beat-based .MODs we put out as Mono back then, and so he put together this mix for us that highlights some of the best material from back then. Hotcakes – I’m Not In The Moog! {‘005}

Artist: Hotcakes
Title:
I’m Not In The Moog!
Label:
 Noiz Phaktah
Catalog #:
 ‘005
Release Date:
2001/05/09

This is what happens when I get toys of destruction to play with =]

Turn your volume UP for this one (nb: Noiz Phaktah will take no responsibility for the damage of your speakers) – as you normally do, I would suspect =] This sort of tune has probably been done before, but I just -had- to turn that Boulderdash-sounding (growing mold/cheese) sample into a bassline!

Samples come from a Moog Rogue and a Roland TR-909 and (NiceBaseDrum) comes from… who knows! I sampled it from somewhere, can’t remember for the life of me, but it’s the best damn bassdrum I have, I use it in almost everything =]

Can’t hear it? Well try DeliTracker v2.32 on Amiga, DeliPlayer, WinAMP or the provided player (OctaMEDPlayer.exe) on Windows, but you really just can’t go past the OctaMEDPlayer v7 for the Amiga – still the only thing that plays ’em right!
