Tweeter – Me And My Friend Lobstah {mtk046}

Artist: Tweeter
Title:
Me And My Friend Lobstah
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk046
Release Date:
2001/02/08

Having previously been associated with Substance’s excellent net.mod.label Voodoo, Finnish musician Tweeter comes out with his debut for Monotonik, and it’s a real treat.

“Me And My Friend Lobstah” is a sinewave-smooth electronic trip with boil+bubble drums and widening echo-styled passages leading out to the fill-out, the breakdown, the true wide-screen style. It’s strangely reminiscent of an earlier era, the early 90s, but in the best possible way – not retro, just as good as the original stuff.

Silkworm – Chemical Graveyard {‘002}

Artist: Silkworm
Title:
Chemical Graveyard
Label:
 Noiz Phaktah
Catalog #:
 ‘002
Release Date:
2001/02/03

Back we are in this extremely hot Summer (or Winter, wherever you are – but it better be hot!) with some suitably hot noyz from the mind of Silkworm, we all like a good 303 stomper every now and then and this one fits the bill quite nicely.

No real news this month except an apology to the Windows listeners who couldn’t find the supposedly provided OctaMEDPlayer.exe, which wasn’t provided at all. Sorry =] You’ll find it in this archive, I promise =]

Can’t hear it? Well try DeliTracker v2.32 on Amiga, WinAMP, ModPlug or the provided player (OctaMEDPlayer.exe) on Windows, but you really just can’t go past the OctaMEDPlayer v7 for the Amiga – still the only thing that plays ’em right!

Smash & Willbe – Separate Ways (Hoffman’s Hardware Remix) {mtw018}

Artist: Smash & Willbe
Title:
Separate Ways (Hoffman’s Hardware Remix)
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw017
Release Date:
2001/01/28

When the clamoring for a relaunch of Mono211 died down, we released that we’d been concentrating a little too much on the downbeat, abstract side of things, and it was good to open up with some _real_ kickin’ stuff on our breakbeat break-beast of a sublabel.

So here we are, and the first release sees English jazz-ster, Smash, as remixed by talented French instrumental hiphop-meister, Willbe, _THEN_ remixed by the mercurial Hoffman, who’s been with Mono right from the start, even part of our first ever release. And he’s only getting better, folks – this measured breaks-remix blends techno, jungle, and nu-skool breaks in an gunshot-sharp way. Still seems like the sound of the future to us, and with forthcoming eruptions from DJ Nova, Darkhalo and Willbe feat. Sear pushing the point even further, we predict a sunny break-filled 2001 throughout the Mono211 sublabel area.

But for now, the mellow keys + outrageous snare-hits of Hoffman’s steppah remix transmogrifies Smash+Willbe’s super original into the way we want to go on – stylish and hard-hitting to a tee, but different, subtly different.

Fun Tourist – DDD {mtk045}

Artist: Fun Tourist
Title:
 DDD
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk045
Release Date:
2001/01/17

In an alternative universe, Tom Jenkinson, aka Squarepusher, is acknowledged as the true king of electronic music, not those spiky old bores, Aphex Twin and Autechre. And in that alternative universe, Finland’s Fun Tourist is, well.. at least grand vizier. And probably senior vice-president in charge of snare rushes.

Regardless of folly, “DDD” is a truly spectacular piece of electronic music, complete with funky drums cut to ribbons, strange octave-pitched tribal chants, 8-bit heavy metal guitars, and beautiful intricacies of melody and tone. It’s easy to see why Fun Tourist has a vinyl release forthcoming on the London label Worm Interface, who’ve been responsible for many beautiful moments from Plod, Solar X, Jake Mandell, and even that lovely Mr.Jenkinson himself.

[check out more Fun Tourist releases at the newly relocated and cosmically yummy net.label Milk, http://milk.scene.org 🙂 ]

Fuk ‘Em Up, Buttercup!
Label:
 Noiz Phaktah
Catalog #:
 ‘001
Release Date:

Welcome to the first Noyz Phaktah release for January. Scrub that. 2001. Scrub that.

Welcome to the first Noyz Phaktah release ever! New mods on the block, this one’ll have you romping ’round the room for a solid half hour. Enjoy that cut-up rave/bad dj feel at only half the price. Turn off that subwoofer though, these ancient 8bit samples show what ancient 8bit samples are really capable of – white guys may need to turn up the treble!

No email addys for anyone yet; I forgot to ask if I can post them in this nfo, so more of them in the next release. Speaking of which, we have some tip-top trance coming your way from tangy sensation Orange Mango, the most breakbeaterest acid from Pioneer and other newbie-wannabe-buttheyreallyare-sogreatyougottahearem-type peeps, read the memberlist for details 😉
