Qeshi – The Eudemonic Homunculus {mtk154}

Artist: Qeshi
Title:
The Eudemonic Homunculus
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk154
Release Date:
2005/10/15

None other than the don Mortimer Twang himself alerted us to a whole album of Swedish artist Qeshi’s music floating out there in the ether, and when we asked the artist himself nicely if we could release it on Monotonik, he kindly assented. But who’s Qeshi? Currently studying in Japan, you may have heard of him from his two tracks that were featured on one of Lee ‘Metamatics’ Norris’ ‘Cottage Industries’ compilations on the excellent Neo-Ouija label, as well as his Flash videos that seems to be rather popular over at NewGrounds, and this album only extends his complex, gorgeous idm sound even further.

We start with the neatly named ‘Moshi Moshi Qeshi!’, which is just wonderfully composed melodic idm – a signature of the Monotonik sound for almost the last ten years. All nine tracks are special in some way, but some of the other highlights are probably ‘Tulip Lilt’, with its refreshingly together sound, the schoolkid-resplendent ‘Take Care Of Your Onaka’, and the almost choral ‘Nattskimmerfly’. Finally, ‘Vilda Och Delfinen’ rounds things off with some more well-deserved, special melody action. Basically, this is a gorgeous classic idm album, and we’re delighted that Qeshi let us release it. Moshi moshi!

It always sets a friendly smile on your face if you realise that an artist is capable of more than just repeating himself. Everyone would have expected some more relaxed soundscaping from Danish producer Lars Pellarin but with this EP you will definitely be surprised.
Minimal House is the magic that enchants all five epically extensive tracks. Edgy clicks in fraternizing conjunction with sweeping House chords float on a driving heartthrob of crispy beats – reaching a clubworthy intensity that’s never been sensed in Pellarin’s former works. No sign of discord beclouds the reign of the rhythm!
We recommend you to play it loud and with a decent level of boost in the basses!

Artist: Psilodump
Title:
Sov Gott
Label:
Candy Mind Records
Catalog #:
CANDY013
Release Date:
2005/10/06

All kind of animals (cats, goats, dogs, beards) in the big fruity candy forests are coming to listen when bitter sweet super hero Psilodump is guesting the realm of Candy Mind with his newest inventions Psilodump is showing us all kind of crazy stuff; stuffed moles mutated with a potato in Trak2, alien cereals in Transport and a very dangerous killing machine filled with ice in Sitting very still.

It’s kind of a freak show, and everyone comes to the freak show, to laugh at the freaks and the geeks, everyone comes to the freak show, but nobody laughs when they leave…

Coming home from Psilodumps crazy show is kind of hard, you know a lot of weird nightmares is waiting for you when you’ll go to sleep.
Psilodump has just got one greeting: saying “sov gott!”.

1. TRAK2
Honouring his Mexican ancestors, Psilodump is sending out his purple tentacles for catching more of the jelly stuff that he likes. And what ever you do: stay clear of the tentacles!!

2. YTA I
A surface is always a surface and will always be a surface, it’s what’s hiding under the surface that is the question. And what is hiding under Psilodumps surface? You will never know for sure!

3. INSIDE THE TRANSPORT
When Psilodump is in a really good mood after a gig he is always going straight into the transport, and is sitting there until next gig. It may sound a bit boring, but the transport is a very cool place with a lot of strange stuff in it. For example a magic cup.

4. YTA II
The exciting sequel of track number two on this release. Don’t miss it, or it will miss you!

5. SITTING VERY STILL
Since the other person is sitting very still, your brain emphasizes the information coming from the moving hand, and parts of the person’s face disappears… This is what’s happening to our Psilodump.

Lackluster – Zero Million Barrels Of Oil Per Day {mtk153}

Artist: Lackluster
Title:
Zero Million Barrels Of Oil Per Day
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk153
Release Date:
2005/09/25

When Finnish-born, currently Irish-based idm veteran Lackluster, aka Esa Ruoho, insistently pinged us over IM to release this stunning single track, ‘Zero Million Barrels Of Oil Per Day’, he was keen that it go live before the global oil market reached its peak. We’re not sure we actually managed that, but heck, we figure this almost 10-minute track will convey its mood perfectly well, separately of the amount of crude bubbling out of the ground at any particular speed.

Esa’s official site reveals what he’s been up to since last releasing on Monotonik early last year, and it includes a new album, ‘Slice’, on excellent Belgian label U-Cover, as well as recent live gigs in Holland, Spain, France, and Dublin, as well as a forthcoming spot this November at the lab30 mini-festival in Augsburg, Germany.

So, what of ‘Zero Million Barrels Of Oil Per Day’? Well, it starts soft, with almost imperceptible shifts in mood, before blasting into life and color, sonic earthquakes and melodic gushers to the fore. If anyone can refine pure noise into beauty, it’s Lackluster, and this carefully crafted track does just that. More soon, please.

50hertz – Filip Och The Rocker {CANDY012}

Artist: 50hertz
Title:
Filip Och The Rocker
Label:
Candy Mind Records
Catalog #:
CANDY012
Release Date:
2005/09/24

The seven piece orchestra 50hertz, armed with toy synthesizers and an overdose of twisted humour are storming our bandwith, impossible to ignore and horrible to behold.

You will never be able to figure out what 50 hertz’s next step is so you better go with the flow and listen to what they have to say…or play.

They have a big, black synthesizer called “the mastermind” and they are wellknown for causing a riot when on stage. At the hultsfred festival 2004 this band showed up with a magician and prerecorded football-comme tary dialog, at the emmaboda festival 2004 with an electronic toy store samba version of Johnny cash´s “Ring of fire”.

They also showed up on björks fullength charity album “army of remixes”. …and now they are turning their red, evil eyes towards Candy Mind.

2. THE MEXICAN GOSPEL FIRE SOULS
Honouring their Mexican ancestors, 50hertz tells us a beautiful story about the brave Gospel Fire Souls from Guadalajara who ferociously fought and terrorized intruders entering their lands in the 16th century.

1. CANNABIS CUP HOS ANNE-FRIDS TUPP
A soothing ballad about the Cannabis Cup at Anne-Frids tupp. The tupp is a heavy smoker but *ssshhhh* – Anne-Frid must not know ANYTHING about this!

3. ISHOCKEYFOTOALBUMET
When 50hertz are in a really good mood after a gig they always dust off one their Ice hockey photo albums and have an enjoyable time remembering the era when they were all major swedish hockey stars in Allsvenskan.

4. KÖRV!! *HYTTANDE NÄVE*
After a hard days work there is nothing better than coming home to mummy for a proper körv dinner. Every good mother knows that!

5. HOLY SMOKER
Arne Hegerfors is the man! In this track he is singing with the 50hertz orchestra about holy smoke and sex and love. A touching song full of fun and laughter and sex and love.

6. VÄNTAN PÅ RENT
This is the sad story about the long wait for Rent.
50hertz have been waiting for him to come back from Oklahoma for as long as they can remember, but he hasn´t even sent them a postcard. Filled with grief they play a tearful blues for their lost friend. Rent, where are you now?

Yen Pox is the debut EP from Bifidus (Juan Carlos Flores). It is formed by tinny dfigital corridors, folds and microscopic sonic explosions. Artificial ambiences that seem to be guided and ordered by the chaos of dreams. Yen Pox creates random tapestries that surprise the listener. Nearly-perfect soundtracks taken from analgesic dreams.

Bifidus music refers to brain atmospheres caught inside dreamy ambiences. The most bizarre expression of dreams plastifies in that hot sphere called yen pox, residues of the just-smoked opium that give its name to this debut ep from Bifidus (Juan Carlos Flores). Tiny digital corridors, folds and sonic microexplosions get us caught in the delightful folds of every wave, artificial ambiences that seem guided and ordered by the chaos of dreams.

This material is inside the realms of the genetic code of ambient, where independent elements make love with incidents creating strong visual tapestries full of texture and randomness that surprise the listener with perfect-near dreamy soundtracks taken form small analgesic dreams or loops without exit. An inner trip full of clicks that takes us to diverse emotional landscapes.
