Maps And Diagrams – The Giant Woods {YKYK019}

Artist: Maps And Diagrams
Title:
The Giant Woods
Label:
 Yuki Yaki
Catalog #:
YKYK019
Release Date:
2009/12/12

It started out as a 4 track EP-isode and has finally grown into a fully-fledged album.
Maps And Diagrams’ latest strike on classical electronica is also his first release on Yuki Yaki, which marks a little beatless respite after a number of more rhythmic outputs recently. Warmly droning ambient-textures with plenty of endless space echo, like in the good old days, dominate the album.
Melancholy, contemplation and calm prevail – nicely wrapped in mysteriously shining soundscapes with a kiss of lo-fi noise. “The Giant Woods” seems to be rather predestined for the dark Winter days to come.

‘The tracks are the result of a certain mood, idle hands and an empty head – and this is probably reflected in them’ states Danish producer Danny Kreutzfeldt about his first EP for YukiYaki. Perfectly right!
This Electronicaesque composed of fine cut Ambient sound imagery and IDM and Minimal House grooves does not require a huge philosophical backdrop behind each and every sonic transient. Under typical music-industrial circumstances four gloomy tracks named after Mesopotamian deities might have conjured up a lot of interpretations. But in this case we may just let the pictures arise in our audiovisual cortex without too much higher brain activity.
Though there is still some space for a little bit of brain juggling. For Danny himself ‘Mount Nada’ – as the EP’s title is pronounced correctly – plays with a little paradox: What exactly is a ‘Mountain Of Nothing’?

Esa Ruoho is always on the go around the Electronica/IDM globe. Thus it is more than a touch of fortune that his restless wanderings washed him to our shores where he left behind a little chest for you. Five lush Electronica pearls have been aligned to a handy EP under his most famous moniker, which shows certainly proof of not only some kind of concept but also of the unquestionable mastership that Esa exposes in all his musical works. Without trendy side blows some grumblers might call it traditional but the more enlightened listener is fairly aware that glistening tunes and sophisticated beat architecture in broad cinemascope will never ever become obsolete.

Artist: Emmerichk
Title:
4th
Label:
 Yuki Yaki
Catalog #:
YKYK014
Release Date:
2008/07/25

Simply titled “4th” – Emmerichk is back on Yuki Yaki. The aesthetics of the single sound, its destinctiveness and presence are more present than on its predecessor. But nonetheless, the sounds do not seem to be forlorn. Every track is its own microcosm of noise, click and motion.
Always one leg on the dancefloor, the other in the lab, Emmerichk shows us his own definition of rhythm, groove and melody.

Dan Carew – We Go Very Well Together {YKYK013}

Artist: Dan Carew
Title:
We Go Very Well Together
Label:
 Yuki Yaki
Catalog #:
YKYK013
Release Date:
2008/03/14

Indeed, Daniel’s first multiple track release is featuring six pieces – not to forget the four additional remixes – which undoubtedly go very well together, and which at the end of the day make this set of tracks feel like a neat little debut album.
Daniel is a real minimalist, somewhere inbetween electronica classicism and minimal house. Hardly to imagine that you could strip down a rhythm more efficiently down to its very basic sound bits and bytes, while being hopelessly in love with innocent melodies.

YKYK.VA – 5 Little Treasures From The North {YKYK012}

Artist: YKYK.VA
Title:
5 Little Treasures From The North
Label:
 Yuki Yaki
Catalog #:
YKYK012
Release Date:
2007/10/04

Yuki Yaki’s 12th strike is a visit of some friends from Denmark bringing with them a small but precious assortment of local Electronica delights.
Having almost ridden out half a decade Rump Recordings has become the most popular stronghold of experimental electronic music in Denmark. And now a band of five fine artists has pledged its contribution for one of our releases: Minimalistic rhythm patterns in slow motion and restrained melodies wrapped in an envelope of startling clicks and sizzling noises.
It’s a mesmerizing kind of unpretentious minimalism and rough authenticity that keeps the tracks of Bjorn Svin, Badun, Acustic, Rumpistol and Karsten Pflum on a common suspense curve as if they were not made as single tracks but as a joint piece of art that could last for much longer than just those five tracks.

Tracklist:
01 – Bjorn Svin – Opening Flower [MP3] [OGG]
02 – Badun – Nick [MP3] [OGG]
03 – Acustic – Steamship Ocean [MP3] [OGG]
04 – Rumpistol – Plutonium2 [MP3] [OGG]

’82nd Ave – Crowd Of Zero {YKYK011}

Artist: ’82nd Ave
Title:
Crowd Of Zero
Label:
 Yuki Yaki
Catalog #:
YKYK011
Release Date:
2007/06/21

It is commonplace: The older you get, the less things happen to you for the very first time – and also the less things you will hear for the first time. This means of course, the more music you have listened to so far, the more seldom you can experience sounds that feel really new, fresh or unprecedentedly existing. Well, this 11th Yuki Yaki-release by ’82nd ave, named “Crowd Of Zero”, is nothing like nova musica, but its easiness and temperament, shown in songs like “Commuter Belt Booty Bass” or “Clear The Floor”, feel really fresh and activate affectively a swinging nod, that sometimes even could extend to an uncontrollable jerking of the leg.
And this is exactly what this kind of music is made for. Let us rock! David Williams himself supposes about the music of his debut album, that it is made for left-foot music lovers that are not able to dance really well. And if they dare to dance anyway, they nod their heads while moving their arms like clairvoyants asking their crystal balls – but all in all, they are relatively grounded somehow. Still, the music of ’82nd ave is only partly down-to-earth. The sound of the tracks of the E.P. sometimes is playfully cacophonic, sometimes harmonious and mellow, but always complex and entertaining. Now then: Have a nice trip!

Glander – Heavy Weights {YKYK010}

Artist: Glander
Title:
Heavy Weights
Label:
 Yuki Yaki
Catalog #:
YKYK010
Release Date:
2007/04/03

The tracks on “Heavy Weights” really keep their promise.
Each song has its own little world with plenty of room and its own life. And Glander takes a lot of time for these songs. The length of them seems to be unusual at the first glance but soon you’ll understand that this is part of their secret.
The tracks are captivating, some even hyptnotising. Hearing them, you will move your feet unconsciously. But you cannot make out their style: There are four fourths, of course, but they are too bassy and dark to be House – and too smooth for being Techno.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter: The tracks will take you on a dive cruise, each of them has its own little valley and its own moon. So: Take your time.
