Relief+Twilight+Ramone – Pulse Of Life (Rewind) {REL#163}

Artist: Relief+Twilight+Ramone
Title:
Pulse Of Life (Rewind)
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#163
Release Date:
1999/03/08

The ever horizontal Ramone provides us with a remix highlight thanks to his careful reconstruction of the Relief+Twilight track from a while back. He seems to have melded the track into a sorta tripped-out odyssey, complete with slowed-down drawling hiphop samples and funky acoustic bass and drums. You got it? You know I got soul! Mm, just sit down and appreciate the atmosphere, please, memsahib? This is top class entertainment, we fear…

Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#162
Release Date:

If you listen closely, it just makes so much _sense_. castlemortonravekid Subi, fresh from sorting us the new version of da m211 screensaver, blasts us another of his telegrams from A500 space, and it’s so.. him. Where else could you get that authentic 1991 flava and the mechtinnytech snarerush that signifies the start of another blastin’ subi tune? nowhere else, that’s where. when i compared m211’s fascination with subi to john peel’s fascination with the fall, subi got a bit upset… but do you know where we’re coming from? 🙂 oh, watch the accompanying .jpg for some present and relevant art from subi too. good man, that.

Distance – Gobblad {mtk002}

Artist: Distance
Title: Gobblad
Label: Monotonik
Catalog #: mtk002
Release Date: 1999/02/27

We continue proceedings on monotonik, mono211’s unconventional idm/techno sublabel, with this mp3 from Distance, our Finnish amigo and master of the understated ambient techno mood. This particular track drifts and phases its way around in a most attractive way, and is released as part of Distance’s project, Lackluster, hence the two names for the author.. so, just chill out, put your feet up and check out this most glacial of grooves. yet again monotonik tends towards the Pete Namlook/FAX stylings h0l admires so much – but watch out for an abrupt change of pace for the next mp3 release, which will be courtesy of Hoffman. But for home listening, nobody beats the biz, and the biz is Distance in da mix 🙂

Ramone+Trigger – Alpha Wezen {mtw004}

Artist: Ramone+Trigger
Title:
Alpha Wezen
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw004
Release Date:
1999/02/22

We return with a beautifully produced track from Ramone and his German studio partner, Trigger (who has recently been responsible for remixing Jeru Tha Damaja’s “Ya Playing Yaself” for DMC Records,amongst other things.) This time it’s a chill-out track that was briefly considered for the credits music on the Playstation title Mono211 have done the soundtrack for.

But thankfully for you guys, it’s now a m211 mp3 release, and you get to hear the distinctive blunted Ramone style given a smooth makeover. What do you say, somewhere between Sun Electric and dubbed-up Orb with a distinctive mono211 breakbeat edge? Nice echo-mashed vocal touches, too.

Artist: Vim!
Title:
Handwash
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#161
Release Date:
1999/02/17

words really don’t do this one much justice. it’s borderline insane, it’s somewhere between the drill, the bass, the ambient, and the headfunk.. it’s got those trademark weird-as-hell arpeggios in there, and it’s just brilliance. then again, i’m sure we’re biased? nonetheless, ridiculously good. hopefully if you’re reading this you have it already. if not, go get it, for gawd’s sake. heh, over and out.. oh, it’s neglected because we didn’t release it for a year or more, btw. more fool us 🙂

Serkul – Lull {rel#30}

Artist: Serkul
Title:
Lull
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#30
Release Date:
1999/02/15

Somewhat delayed after the first version of this track insisted on crashing winamp within 5 seconds of starting (!), this excellent new track from our Australian guest Serkul once again shows why he’s doing some of the most original techno available on the Net at the moment. Somewhere in the ballpark of The Black Dog, perhaps, this is discordantly glorious and beautifully offbeat. More, please?

Substance – Beat For Me {mtw003}

Artist: Substance
Title:
Beat For Me
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw003
Release Date:
1999/02/08

mono211 is proud to present the third mp3 release from da home of da hits. this time round it’s Substance, who provides us with a hard, filtered d+b track with an evil agenda to make your feet tap. But there’s lots of hidden subtlety, both in rhythm and texture, which emerges the more you listen to it. somewhere towards the Bristol d+b sound but tending to echo a less filtered Optical-styled sound, this is the sound of jungle getting lean, mean, and moody just in time for the new millenium.

Artist: DJ Brisco Schneider
Title:
Rinkidinki
Label:
 No’Mo’
Catalog #:
no_10
Release Date:
1999/02/07

Oh no. the quiet of my beautiful log house was interrupted by my door being bludgeoned down by two very disagreeable orcs. They handed me a floppy disc which they said was from ‘their friends’ in No’Mo’. And so I’m forced to publish No’Mo’ release #10, ‘Rinkidinki’ (297k), a remix of the classic Nuke/Lemon. amigademo track, “Rink-A-Dink” (original also included in the ZIP.) They may force me to put more No’Mo’ stuff up here soon. I fear for my safety. Please help, dear readers?

Artist: Distance
Title:
Star Cell U.K.
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#29
Release Date:
1999/02/05

For some reason we seem to have managed to make the description of this release sound somewhat like a crossword clue – oh well, no matter. Originally an entry into gc27, this is the 16-bit version of a truly beautiful track by Finnish idm maverick Distance. We should probably point out that it adheres to the Aphex Twin’s anagram methods of tune naming, too – clever boy, clever boy. In any case, listen, sway, hum happily, and appreciate.

Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:

Release Date:
1999/02/01

This one has been waiting in the wings for a very long time – apologies to Prob and Ebb for delaying it. But finally a release for the superlative “Stylez EP” by one of mono211’s foremost Finns and his studio partner, Ebb. There’s actually very little that can be said about this apart from the fact that damn, it’s a classy hiphopjam, and the bonustrack is original and smartstyled too. Oh, please note that real scratching and real sativa extract was used in the making of this track, and readers – don’t try it at home, bwoooyeee 😉 Honey, I got rhythm!
