Dharma – Dance To The Drummer’s Beat {mtw009}

Artist: Dharma
Title:
Dance To The Drummer’s Beat
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:

Release Date:
1999/07/03

To say we were blown away when we heard this one is probably an understatement. Since we switched to mp3 only, most m211 tunes use many of the advantages of that format, and this is a beautiful example (yehyeh, you can stop bitching now, MOD traditionalists!).

In any case, “Dance..” is an absolutely spectacular funkjam straight outta the Dharma+Prob. studiobunker in Helsinki. Dharma plays live bass and guitar on this one, and would also like to thank Panu Syrjänen for the wicked live tenor sax playing. On with the music, on with the show..?

Also, a further plug – as you might have heard, Dharma and Prob. have a single out on the Audio Couture sublabel of Moving Shadow in just a few weeks – it’s called “Soulwarrior” and it’s by Dharma+Dice – we’ve heard the tracks and they’re the funkiest d+b you’ve EVER heard, and that’s official 🙂 So don’t forget to go buy the 12″ at your local record emporium.

[thanks to Hotwire@NinjaGirl for cover-image – m_end.jpg]

This is the end, my friend. mono211 and monotonik will continue to put out the best mp3s, CDs and so on, but MODs on mono211+tonik end here, right now. You wouldn’t want us fading away, would you? Better to burn out with this final compilation. It’s been over 3 years and getting on for 200 releases on both labels, so the title – pretty suitable, we guess?

h0l and the rest of the mono211/monotonik crew would like to extend their thanks to everyone who ever released MODs via mono or mono211 or monotonik, those who helped us with distribution and webspace, supported us with emails, kind words, and encouragement, and those who listened to and enjoyed our tunes. There’s plenty of MOD groups around, but we’d like to think we have a special place in your hearts as one of the groups who did things a little differently.

Enough. Keep on checking http://www.mono211.com, and keep it fresh. The best, we’ve been assured, is yet to come.

Dharma – Flash, Gone Now {REL#125}

Artist: Dharma
Title:
Flash, Gone Now
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#125
Release Date: 1998/02/10

Dharma never bums us out, and here’s another track that hits all the right notes, percussively and chill-wise. Very wise,in fact, as it hips and hops and hippety-hops around in a kinda jazzy drummy funky way. Dub is love, this is almost better than the karma police coming round your house and taking you away. Heh, my karma ran over your dogma, man. 🙂

news news news ! linus have spoken that he is gonna buy an PC soon, so the amount of 4CH musicians in voodoo is decreasing all the time, new members with capability to compose great stuff with 4CH accepted, contact by e-mail

those people on the mailinglist who wants to receive their voodoo’s as ZIP instead of LHA should mail me immediately, tell their names and that they’d prefer ZIP for LHA, and i’ll fix it too. archives in aminet will be LHA’s.

Artist: Dharma
Title:
Ponziani Opening
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#110
Release Date:
1997/10/13

Our Finnish jazz-freak returns with an absolutely wicked track, complete with flute played by himself, and triphop atmospherics blending into some freestyle d+b… as jazzed-down and tripped-up as it gets. Don’t stop (don’t stop.. don’t stop.. don’t stop..)

[Oh, this was meant to be a 4-channel MOD, but it doesn’t play correctly on the Amiga (‘cos some of the channels get too high, octave-wise), so it’s being released as an XM instead. Hope nobody minds, it sounds identical.]

another ‘long-been-waiting-for’ release from us tonight. we are proud to present dharma’s absolutely fabulous DEBUT track. dharma tried composing on 4 channels. that’s something to respect.

anyway, not much more to say than this is such a great track. dharma’s been playing the blues on the guitar by himself and experienced with the trippy drums a bit. wicked tune.

Time for the third Monotonik release, and it’s another damn original track, this time by Dharma. In any case, it’s a great new release, it’s “piercing your eardrums at 300m/s”, and there’s a danger of hospitalisation from the whiplash. So wear your hard hats and enjoy the chaos. 🙂

Artist: Dharma

Shade
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:

Ridiculously hot day here at Mono HQ, and a suitably humid and oppressive release to suit it. Dharma comes on strong with a ‘Sunstroke Mix’ of this excellent downbeat track, complete with weird jazzy inflexions. Perhaps you can see why he’s joined up with Mono now? 🙂 We’re scared of him, at least. ;P
