Mistress Nine – State Of Anxiety {mrv004}

Artist: Mistress Nine
Title:
State Of Anxiety
Label:
 monoRAVEik
Catalog #:
mrv004
Release Date:
2001/09/22

There’s nothing like a little monoRAVEik action to mash the place up a little, and surprisingly enough, this time it’s from a newcomer, Mistress Nine, busting out the proto-breakbeat moves so smoothly, you’d believe it was the lord Subi himself at the keys.

You might know Mistress Nine as one of the leading lights in the DJ scene at ‘The Village’, Portmeiron’s own special gated community. It’s fortunate for us that she managed to get this mp3 unimprisoned, and we’re now able to enjoy the blend of breathy vocals, crunching beats, and rasping analog synths. What with Public Domain shooting back up the charts in the UK, is it time for monoRAVEik to enjoy a critical renaissance? We think so, but then, we’re still Acen fans at heart.

Aereal – Transitions EP {mtk062}

Artist: Aereal
Title:
Transitions EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk062
Release Date:
2001/09/22

We’re very pleased to follow up our initial release from UK-based idm-er Aereal with this contemplatively complex, wonderfully circumspect 2-track EP which we’re convinced cements his reputation as the best artist you’ve never heard of. Something we hope we’ll change.

The EP leads off with “Bacurex”, a tour de force of understated, melodically dense electronics in the tradition of the best B12 or Black Dog releases. And “Metro Cammell”, the second track, stuns further, with percussion looping down like shooting stars and melodies soaring up like rockets – and when the song breaks down and gets all ambientribal, the listener soars too.

Monotonik is proud to have been associated, if only peripherally, with the rebirth of the early 90s ‘Artificial Intelligence’ vibe through labels like DeFocus and Neo-Ouija, and here’s another prime example. It’s music that makes you feel real. Good.

Devic – Midnight ruminations {od024}

Artist: Devic
Title:
Midnight ruminations
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:
od024
Release Date:
2001/09/21

“Darkness comes everyday. Darkness never harmed anyone, yet people are afraid of the dark. They choose to stay out of darkness. This song depicts the beauty of darkness. Many times at night, we get
thoughts and ideas that affect our life. This song is about them.”
this is what our new psycho indian member says about his first great release on ogredung. and -believe him guys- the music is really dark, minimal, psychedelic. as if taking part in a satanic rave party, deep kicks strike us down from the inside and the grooves make us sweating while a decisively psycho/obscure lazer takes us in this nocturne trip.
as the man euji acha would say, ‘play it loud and proud or do not play it at all’.

guys if i made you happy with the last release (asha), i will make you happier now with another (yes!) awesome guest release from japan.
it seems we’re specializing in world/ethnic music men! anyway, not ethnotronic this time, but celtic!
the track is really short (about 2:45 mins), but we can find everything we always dreamt for in this piece; great strings, guitars, awesome flutes, harps, ethnic beats, crystal sounds, and whatever, melt in a pure, eternal soundtrack-like landscape.
we dreamt with m2, we have just dreamt with asha, and now we dream with hak! arf arf 😀

Asha – Rising Sun, The Son Of God {od022}

Artist: Asha
Title:
Rising sun, the son of God
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:

Release Date:
2001/09/16

today we are truly proud, as honored by this greeeat guest release from japan, the country of the rising sun, that is.
maybe the first track on ogredung containing (indian/arabesque) vocals, it seems we’re going directly towards an ethnotronic world.
the beats perfectly interlace with growing synths and vibrato flutes, the guitar (or what is that, maybe sitar?) notes contribute painting an epic image of the whole piece, thus leaving us a nice world-ambient landscape.
but hey men asha is ethnotronic, and we thank him!

new release by m2, new cup to fill up at ogredung.
with a clearly recognizable style the oriental boy puts down a great techno melody and -yes- piano notes make us dreamin’ once again.
the song plays quietly its chords and as always we are surrounded by the general environment, as if staring a clear and azurine landscape.
sky raunge, or better, lounge sky. 😉

Proswell – 0EO {mtk061}

Artist: Proswell
Title:
0EO
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk061
Release Date:
2001/09/12

Though we’ve admired his work on the net.label Inpuj, plus current/forthcoming real.life releases on Merck and Saundart, we haven’t had a chance to put out anything from US idm.artist Proswell.. until now, that is.

But “0EO”, possibly named after a certain chip-tune related tracker-based command which you can hear used on the track, is a really enchanting piece of intelligently puttering idm-ness, again, sorta indescribable in its multiple layering and soaring subtle sounds, but a little reminiscent of the most delicate, sweetest artists around – Isan, Mum, BoC?

And when everything kicks in, “0EO” is like a slumber-filled tint on the kind of euphoria you got when you watched and listened to “Music Sounds Better With You”, seeing a kid launching a glider off a grassy hill in the hazy summer heat, the beats looping and quietly endorphin-rushing over and over. Significantly, slinkily.. yum.

Purusha – Flowery {od020}

Artist: Purusha
Title:
Flowery
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:
od020
Release Date:
2001/09/10

purusha is back to fill up the second releases-page at ogredung, by releasing this flowery.
the track was originally composed to appear in an ep with ma petite kkot, but for some strange reasons never appeared.
well now here it is.
the track itself is well-composed, and if you’re there and ask me what’s the style then i tell you reverse chiphouse (???).
a short piece of music, but we can clearly feel the age of it, that is, a lil’bit old, indeed. 😦

Tracklist:
01 – Flowery

KEN1 – Wanderers 2001 {od019}

Artist: KEN1
Title:
Wanderers 2001
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:
od019
Release Date:
2001/09/08

ken1 strikes at ogredung with a commercial/tranzie guest module, pretending to be goa i think. 😉
nothing to say about his tracking skills, clearly hi-level; maybe the lenght of the song, indeed, too short (3:30).
btw, what we have to do is just listening to the leads&strings&beats that take us and the wanderers towards the eastern lands.
