Relief+Skizo – Sizeable Chunk Of Beats {REL#109}

Artist: Relief+Skizo
Title:
Sizeable Chunk Of Beats
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#109
Release Date:
1997/10/08

Take the rough with da rougher, courtesy of da Splif Productions guide to sonic trickery. Or, as it says in the song-text – “Prodigy – we ****ed em” 😉 Ok, so this is hardly comforting home listening for first thing on a Monday morning, but it’s certainly dangerously funky. More to come from the dangerous Danish duo, take heed and take check.

Soup – Paradise {REL#108}

Artist: Soup
Title:
Paradise
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#108
Release Date:
1997/10/05

A guest release from Soup/Illogik this time round, and it’s some scarily cool d+b action, perhaps a little less twisted than a lot of Mono tracks – but it’s good for us to be suave every now and then. The name’s Mono – you know the rest. 😉

01 – Paradise [IT] [FLAC] [MP3]

TheFoxII – Cokal {REL#107}

Artist: TheFoxII
Title:
Cokal
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#107
Release Date:
1997/10/01

Sadly, it’s just about time to say goodbye to TheFoxII, as he quits tracking in favour of MIDI stuff and DJ-ing.. but it’s nice to go out on a funky note, and this one’s typically kicking – disco cut-ups rule. In fact, this one reminds us of somewhere between The Bucketheads and The Goodmen (anyone remember them?) 🙂 In any case, da track fits pretty well into the wide gospel that Mono preach – as long as it’s eklektik and funky, it can make it. 🙂 Aaaaamen. (Oh, and this tune appears to get stuck in endless loops in MikIt, although MOD4WIN plays it fine.. doh!)

01 – Cokal [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]

Substance – Shaman’s Nature {rel#o4}

Artist: Substance
Title:
Shaman’s Nature
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#o4
Release Date:
1997/09/28

A new Monotonik track, and this time a fine release from Kuu. Actually, this one reminds us very much of the classic Harthouse/Eye-Q style of techno, which can only be a good thing. There’s enough percussion in here to stun a horse. In case people are still wondering how Mono artists manage to get so much into 4 channels, there’s an utility called MOD2SMP which allows the composer to compose a whole drum-pattern in 4 channels, and then output it as a sample which can be used in just 1 channel. Cool, huh? 🙂

Subi – Post-Subi Comedown EP {REL#106}

Artist: Subi
Title:
Post-Subi Comedown EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#106
Release Date:
1997/09/22

A new EP from the always interesting Subi, and another example of his dense, breakbeat-led style. 🙂 Curiously oldskool but somehow new at the same time – straange. You may, if you wish, try to decode the titles of the tracks too, but we have enough trouble even when he explains them to us. Oh, and doesn’t the first track sound curiously like the tune by Static from the Rebels demo “Total Triple Trouble”? And that was about 1991. 😉

Tracklist:
01 – Aandaorsyrodinon [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]
02 – Thyduntaalwuk [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]

Vim! – Ken Dodd Attitude {REL#105}

Artist: Vim!
Title:
Ken Dodd Attitude
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#105
Release Date:
1997/09/19

Vim! almost went away a couple of months back, but thankfully he didn’t quite finish with the scene as he said, and he’s still hanging around, to increasing acclaim. Here’s one of his latest tracks, exclusive to Mono, and it’s another cracker – tight Squarepusher-style percussive shenanigans with an original edge. Ken Dodd, for those not in the know, is a very strange English comedian with protruding teeth, a ‘tickling stick’, and a very strange.. attitude. So the title fits, then? 🙂

Tracklist:
01 – Ken Dodd Attitude [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Additional Files:
FILE_ID [DIZ] [PNG]

Artist: Substance
Title:
Distortion Paranoid
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#104
Release Date:
1997/09/14

The most excellent Substance comes back at us with this track, apparently inspired by the experimentalism of Radiohead’s new album. Only more so. It’s better not to over-elaborate, perhaps, but let’s just say that this one is quite a long way.. out there.

Tracklist:
01 – Distortion Paranoid [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]

Relief+Twilight – Phuck Det Er Varmt {REL#103}

Artist: Relief+Twilight
Title: Phuck Det Er Varmt
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#103
Release Date:
1997/09/10

Oh, go on then. England meets Denmark in a play-off for the world rudeboy finals, second time round, and it’s a dead heat. Again. Anyone for another bout? 🙂 Unquestionably another of the best tracks Mono’s put out, the Relief vs. Twilight match hits paydirt again. Rough English translation of the title – ‘damn it’s hot’ 🙂 Certainly is. 😉

01 – Phuck Det Er Varmt [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]

Dharma – Otsuki {rel#o3}

Artist: Dharma
Title:
Otsuki
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#o3
Release Date:
1997/09/04

Time for the third Monotonik release, and it’s another damn original track, this time by Dharma. In any case, it’s a great new release, it’s “piercing your eardrums at 300m/s”, and there’s a danger of hospitalisation from the whiplash. So wear your hard hats and enjoy the chaos. 🙂

01 – Otsuki [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Linus – Le Fonque EP {REL#101}

Artist: Linus
Title:
Le Fonque EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#101
Release Date:
1997/08/31

We be back, and it’s a long-awaited guest release from linus/phd. One of mono’s favourite artists, linus has gone ahead and donated us a couple of wicked new tracks. We’re also re-releasing one of his very best releases on phase distortion (“stoopid interlude”). The reason we’re doing this is firstly because we adore the tune, and secondly because we think there’s a lot of people who listen to mono who haven’t got round to listening to phd yet – so we’re giving it a different (wider?) audience. 🙂 The phd homepage is linked from the mono www page, btw! Explanations over, just enjoy the great tracks. 🙂
