Artist: Substance
Title:
Distortion Paranoid
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#104
Release Date:
1997/09/14

The most excellent Substance comes back at us with this track, apparently inspired by the experimentalism of Radiohead’s new album. Only more so. It’s better not to over-elaborate, perhaps, but let’s just say that this one is quite a long way.. out there.

i’m back from sweden. it was *fucking* nice in there, allthough the weather could’ve been nicer but still i enjoyed my staying in there.

anyway, here is the next release. i really wonder how could i kick all the inactive members awake. it seems that only orlingo and me are the active people in voodoo and if this isn’t gonna change you can except some major changes in the group.

after all i hope you enjoy this mellow drum&bass track. it’s compiled a bit out of an live track done by me, but only just a bit, don’t judge it too hard since it’s still an mod. but enjoy it!

Release Date:

here we present a brand new release which has been asked and demanded by lots of people. i wonder why do they think that there  must be released one release per week or something like that. i’ve said it before and i’m gonna say it once more. WE in voodoo do not have  any kind of schedule about releasing stuff. most of the members are also busy with all what’s happening in their lives, girlfriends, parties, performances and all that.

the reason why we don’t release music that often is that one of the main ideas in voodoo is that we always compose the tracks TO BE RELEASED on our label, and not to release our old tracks that maybe already released before and that is what most music groups do, please try to get the picture, not all musicians are fast trackers..

another sour milk..

Catalog #:

Release Date:

We were looking through the archives just now and came across this really rather irie track by Substance. It was entered in the music competition (subsequently cancelled) for the Digital Candy BBS, our former WHQ, earlier this year, but never really got spread properly. So, naturally, we decided to put it out. Rejoice, heathens, for Substance is your ruler and master. 😉

boom! you may ask why the fuck another music group AGAIN! as there are dozens, maybe even hundreds of ’em already. so the answer is simple, it’s there just to decrease the competition.

yet this is not a special group, and the music is not any more special than in any other groups. one speciality might be though, that the bounds of the music style are being drawn more stricly than in most of the other groups, since i’ve noticed that organizers in many other groups have loosed their hold on that matter. i won’t expose the strict style at this very moment, but you will find it out soon..

and the last good reason to start this project was that since i’ve been in mono for quite some time, i wanted to take my first own steps so here we go and i don’t give a fuck about negative opinions, we exist and.. all of us are one people..

Quiet, please. If I could have your attention? Finland’s entry to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is “Phonk Phaq”. The orchestra will be conducted by some blunted kidz from the ghetto. There will be a fine jungle remix courtesy of Substance’s brain ™. And the lord shall be happy, and he will decree that it was good. And people will cherish and enjoy this Mono release forever. Amen.

Artist: Whiskas+Substance
Title:
Phtalate (remix)
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#65
Release Date:
1997/05/16

The first track from Whiskas to go out on the Mono label, and it’s a large, scarily detailed remix of his good friend Substance. Never mind the size, listen to the depth – this is really stretching four channels as far as it can possibly go. Total originality is what the crowd wants, and it’s what the crowd gets. 🙂

Artist: Substance
Title:
Twisted Shadows
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#63
Release Date:
1997/04/12

This time round a visit to the sharper end of the Mono spectrum (no blunted beatz here..), and Substance’s knack for the rhythmic but different shines thru. And ‘liquid wax’ describes the phasing SH-101 bass which is Kuu’s trademark pretty well. Watch out for more Substance stuff soon, including tunes previously performed live at raves in Finland, heh. 🙂

First in the series of _serious_ ‘quality-not-quantity’ trip on Mono, this EP from Substance highlights the new directions elektronik musik is going in nowadays – think Warp, Rephlex, Squarepusher, et al. And let’s face it, who else is doing this kinda complex, far-ahead stuff in 4-channel? Fifteen – love. Check da next release for the next installment of Mono’s quality drive. 🙂

A new year, a new song. hah. This time round minimalist techno sorta gets warped round triphop, courtesy of Substance, and a nice kinda melange gets spewed out. And am I the only one that thinks the bass sounds like a certain Neneh Cherry + Youssou N`Dour song? heh. 🙂
