Proswell – Dryrot {[one05]}

Artist: Proswell
Title:
Dryrot
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one05]
Release Date:
2004/03/13

A 45 minute continuous mix from Proswell, ft. b-sides, out takes, new material, and a few favorites from his sophomore release Carrot Dossier (columbo theme, tar and atari, rat news) on m3rck records. Even with this relation, Dryrot is easily a release with its own identity.

Finding time between releases at m3rck and running Inpuj, he explores the laid back and driving sound that’s heard between the cracks of Carrot Dossier and often strays from the sound that defined that album (as is heard within the opening minutes). While a welcome and surprise release from one of our favorites, the unique sensibility and style of this release also makes an exceptional introduction to those that have yet to hear his music and will most likely leave them searching for more.

The final track on the mix is titled ‘llipuru’ and was exclusively released on the excellent Intelligent Toys compilation from Sutemos (free). Also ft. tracks from Tim Koch, Stud, Khonnor, Sleepy Town Manufacture, Sense + more.

Blisaed – Hopeless Falling From EP {mtk127}

Artist: Blisaed
Title:
Hopeless Falling From EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk127
Release Date:
2004/02/29

Returning after his debut ‘As Time Passes EP’ of last year, US electronic artist Matt Centonze, aka Blisaed, who’s been continuing to release excellent material on netlabels such as Camomille and Ronin Collective, graces us with another gently beautiful 4-track EP of vocal-specked, emotion-tinged electronics.

This time round, debut song ‘Photo’ starts things off with casually gorgeous melodies, all multi-layered and shimmering and oxidizing slowly as it’s exposed to the air, before ‘A Silent Walk In The Park’ kicks in, whisper-sung vocals, longing, and odd beauty to the fore. From there on, ‘The One You Thought You Knew’ hits up a stop-start, almost Super Science-like groove of understated splendor, before ‘Showing Her What You’re Made Of’ ends up with an even more herky-jerky, hyperreal mix of attractive keyboards and gently caressing synths.

So, ‘Hopeless Falling From EP’ makes a lot of sense, both as another document of the resurgence of melodic electronic music in the U.S., and as a Monotonik release that fits into our sekrit agenda of releasing ths most gorgeous headphone music we can possibly find, and then spraying it out to the general public in a machine-gun fashion. Catch this one in your teeth, willya?

Leenak & Makunouchi Bento – Miopedi : Errata EP {[one04]}

Artist: Leenak & Makunouchi Bento
Title:
Miopedi : Errata EP
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one04]
Release Date:
2004/02/28

Leenak (kaneel) and Makunouchi Bento have once again put their minds together and created ‘Errata’, under their Miopedi collaboration. Often split releases come across with a fitting split persona, though Miopedi : Errata has strong personalities reminiscent of the ambience and sound that seemingly existed in memory long before you heard them.

As surreal and haunting as the accompanied artwork, it’s tempting to hunt down the relation and reason behind this caustic ambience.. only no deduction could bring it justice. This is the very essence of the Miopedi project that got us asking for more. Familiar and mysterious at the same time — while retaining the desire of enjoyable and repeated listening.

Artist: Joko13
Title:
Success Denied
Label:
 Comatronic
Catalog #:
COM02
Release Date:
2004/02/27

Alright! Comatronic is back with number two in the catalogue: the three tracker ‘Success Denied’ by Joko13.
‘Probe Sixty’, a kinda spacy, pleasant and mellow dub tech track with some clicks and bleeps is followed by ‘Harter Plateau’, a somewhat darker pumping tune with a slightly spooky atmosphere. Track number three is more or less a dj tool (hence the title) and slowly evolves from hip-shaking funkiness to become a driving minimal tech-house stomper. Enjoy!

Artist: Unit21 & Neurotron
Title:
Lain
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:

Release Date:
2004/02/25

Seemingly inspired by knowing what a ballad to a virtual girlfriend would sound, Unit21 from Russia approaches the listener with piano motions and electronic tapestries, a portion of life captured in a soundtrack-ish space of sounds. And way captivating is Neurotron’s re-mix of the song, drifting in a melodic and composed approach to techno, and combining the soft beats with the layered, moody atmospheres of Unit21’s proposal; intended more as a listening experience than a dancefloor smasher.

Randomajestiq – Deepmove Mode EP {[one03]}

Artist: Randomajestiq
Title:
Deepmove Mode EP
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one03]
Release Date:
2004/02/24

His mixes are solid, well thought out and it shows almost instantly. ‘Deepmove Mode’ is less ecclectic and more melodic groove than his previous releases with kahvi, kikapu, autoplate, here and more.

However, he doesnt fully detach the listener from those releases as he picks up as abrasively as he left off (penikolada) then glides in with a song from Evolver (now a part of randomajestiq) which seemes to set the pace until hitting the groove’s ground floor with gravity 0 and taking off with this sound even further on Island 4d (easily the stand out track). The feel this time around is more at home on a dance floor than on stage with a laptop, but remains genuinely equal inside the headphones.

Sleepy Town Manufacture – For You & For Me {mtk126}

Artist: Sleepy Town Manufacture
Title:
For You & For Me
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk126
Release Date:
2004/02/14

In the form of a Valentine’s Day gift to all from Russian idm maestro Sleepy Town Manufacture, which Monotonik has sneakily re-packaged and re-gifted to the entire world, we’re proud to present ‘For You & For Me’, an entire double album picking some of the best from STM’s unreleased output from 1999 to 2002, with a number of tracks specially updated and remastered for this compilation.

Sleepy Town, formerly a duo/trio, and now down to a single member, are particularly known for their association with Lee ‘Metamatics’ Norris, having released a track both on his NeoOuija’s ‘Cottage Industries 3’ compilation and on the excellent Metamatics ‘Rewired In My Manor’ remix CD on Hydrogen Dukebox. They’ve also released several times on Monotonik, most recently the borderline gorgeous ‘Latatoo EP’ in late 2002.

So, it’s a pleasure to be putting out such a glacially dreamy double album for free – there’s so much great material on here that it’s difficult to pick out highlights, but let’s start with ‘Lea Chind’, all ethereal synths and looping melodies and soaring into the future, before picking up on the ultra-dense ‘Noil’ and its rolling waves of sound, before moving on to the almost mechanical, tragically catchy ‘Polygon’, and the closing drift of the truly serene ‘Ambient Forms N4’. All in all, a wonderful experience, and a beautiful thing to just give away just like that – for that, we thank Sleepy Town and their beguiling ways.
