Whiskas – As In ‘Cockroach’ {rel#o8}

Artist: Whiskas
Title:
As In ‘Cockroach’
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#o8
Release Date:
1997/11/19

Room spinning. Confused. Can’t find door. Help me. This is the correct response when listening to Whiskas’ latest track for Monotonik, a blend of something and something to create something else entirely. The only bit we recognise sounds like part of a Pet Shop Boys track, but most of the rest sounds like a surreal melange of little mice tooting on horns and little devils running across the floor. Warning – this track may contain live cockroaches…

Artist: Relief+Skizo
Title:
D-Tour
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#114
Release Date:
1997/11/15

I think the word is ‘magisterial’. Or thereabouts. Fat beats, hype scratches, dark synth licks, and an excuse to blow your eardrums. Which it’s never a bad idea to turn down. Or, as the Gravediggas so eloquently put it – “bang your muthaf***ing head’. 😉 heh. 😉 In any case, sometimes no words correctly describe a tune, and this one speaks for itself. Enough.

[please note, MOD4WIN mangles the playing of this track somewhat – try to replay it in MikIt or FastTracker.. or something that plays it right, heh!]

Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#113
Release Date:
1997/11/07

Vim! is currently wandering about in the garden painting flowers. Well, at least, he’s gone to uni to do something arty. But that’s what we suspect he’s doing. In the meantime, here’s a dangerously dangerous dangerous thing showing what he’s like when he’s mad. Vim! smash. You fear Vim! 🙂

Oh. My. God. Just as we feared we were getting down to the last of Dreamfish’s tunes and wondered when new material was going to turn up, here it is. And here’s the first fruits – and it’s out of this world. Driving, complex, funky, sussed – it’s enough to make you sick, innit? Well, for now, just put away the bucket and enjoy. 🙂

Artist: Ramone
Title:
Sneaky Graffiti
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#112
Release Date:
1997/10/29

The ever blunted Ramone returns with this absolutely excellent hiphop track, dope fly freshness permeating every byte. 😉 Of course, Mono would like to take this opportunity to remind people that graffiti is officially a ‘bad thing’ and is just mindless vandalism, not cool urban artwork. And don’t you forget it. 😉

Distance – Denmark EP {rel#o6}

Artist: Distance
Title:
Denmark EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#o6
Release Date:
1997/10/25

After Mono was awfully disappointed to have missed Distance’s last EP (released on Tokyo Dawn Records), this time round we caught the wave, and we’re proud to present a brand-new set of tracks from him. There’s little doubt that he’s one of the major talents tracking techno on the music scene right now, and his songs remain constantly unpredictable, stark, suave, and ass-kicking by equal measures. Keep it up, mon. A couple of these tracks even fit on Mono very well (especially “Only My Home”), but we thought it better to keep them as a whole on Monotonik. 🙂

Tracklist:
01 – Buu [IT] [FLAC] [MP3]
02 – Have That Cup On A Cap [IT] [FLAC] [MP3]

Mortimer Tee returns to play with himself – and in public, too. 😉 Yup, this excellent remix EP sees him revisiting and remixing a couple of his classy tunes from a while back. And there’s going to be more original Mortimer tracks coming up soon. In the meantime, enjoy..

Artist: Zyad
Title:

Release Date:
1997/10/18

This was going to be a guest release, but then we realised that Zyad was just so good we’d have to ask him to join too. And he did. 🙂 Welcome to him, and here’s the first track he’s putting out on Mono. And it’s absolutely excellent, spooky ambience building up to a cavalcade of hissing, twisting beats. Respect.

Dharma – Ponziani Opening {REL#110}

Artist: Dharma
Title:
Ponziani Opening
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#110
Release Date:
1997/10/13

Our Finnish jazz-freak returns with an absolutely wicked track, complete with flute played by himself, and triphop atmospherics blending into some freestyle d+b… as jazzed-down and tripped-up as it gets. Don’t stop (don’t stop.. don’t stop.. don’t stop..)

[Oh, this was meant to be a 4-channel MOD, but it doesn’t play correctly on the Amiga (‘cos some of the channels get too high, octave-wise), so it’s being released as an XM instead. Hope nobody minds, it sounds identical.]
