Artist: Ramone
Title:
Hi-Rez EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#144
Release Date:
1998/08/10

Again, some deck-clearing, with some excellent instrumental hiphop given to us by Ramone earlier this year, and finally released now. The slight delay in releasing has, if anything, matured this year’s vintage, and it’s still a mighty fine double-tracker.

02 – Bango [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Mortimer Twang – That Organ Thing {rel#143}

Artist: Mortimer Twang
Title:
That Organ Thing
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#143
Release Date:
1998/08/03

Licensed from our friends at Black Sista (thanks as ever to Ohgosh!), here’s another wonderful Mortimer track that probably never reached as many people as it should have. This one especially rules because, just like The Wiseguys’ “Ooh La La”, it’s just so much damn _fun_. We’re hoping the Twangster’s gonna come back with some more new tracks for bs!+m211 soon, but in the meantime, this’ll have to do. And boy, it does pretty well. Altogether now..

Vim! – Borderline EP {rel#142}

Artist: Vim!
Title:
Borderline EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#142
Release Date:
1998/07/29

The boy can’t help it, he just can’t help it. Apologies from us to Vim! and his fans for not getting these songs out very fast at all – they were tracked much earlier this year. But at least at least they’re out, and we guess you should really open wide and say ‘aaahh’. Or at least ‘ah?’ 🙂 Style, grace, Rita Hayworth, all that nice stuff, Vim! has it in spades. So if you’ve got a heart, let’s club together and buy him enough diamonds to jack it all in and live on the Gold Coast forever. Ohdear, we appear to have lost it. In a nice way, of course. Viva Vim!

Subi – Sikm’scaalikik {rel#141}

Artist: Subi
Title:
Sikm’scaalikik
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#141
Release Date:
1998/07/24

Ohno, we’ll never stop releasing the Subi sound, purely because.. oh, heck, we’re much too fond of the old coot. He beavers away up in his attic creating weird sorta retro but appealing horribly lo-fi harsh little tunes, and we can’t help but put them out. There’s also an appealing half-manga little doodle from Subi himself we’ve included as some kind of album cover manque. Aww, isn’t he sweet? 🙂

Bay Tremore – Rockin’ Steady {rel#140}

Artist: Bay Tremore
Title:
Rockin’ Steady
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#140
Release Date:
1998/07/10

More of the pretty unique Bay Tremore junglistics, and this one is bordering on the gorgeous – full of little turns and cut-ups and organ stabs and drums on drums, and for four channels too, it’s maddeningly good. Apologies to all those bands using their thirty-two channel studios and making music worse than this – we didn’t mean to show you up, honestly 😉

Tracklist:
01 – Rockin’ Steady [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]

Additional Files:

Relief+Skizo – Sysreq {rel#139}

Artist: Relief+Skizo
Title:
Sysreq
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#139
Release Date:
1998/07/06

Maan, we wish those Danish supadudes sent us a free pair of safety goggles with every release. Relief+Skizo blow the whole damn joint up with this barely logical, getting kinda vicious noisefest. Heck, the last half of this track sounds like it was made in a blender, slowly sucking the Prodigy down into a large plughole. And out the other side into _hell_. And what’s up with the fly invading yr speakers at the start? Mayhem.

Tracklist:
01 – Sysreq [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Linus – Ewiges Eis {rel#138}

Artist: Linus
Title:
Ewiges Eis
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#138
Release Date:
1998/06/22

Mmm. For Linus’ first release as a member of mono211, he breaks out the originality potion for a tribute to most excellent film director and composer, John Carpenter. Famous in the 70s for pictures such as “Escape From New York”, “The Thing”, and “Assault on Precinct 13”, many people think Carpenter was one of the fathers of modern electronic music, with his sparse electronic scores for his movies. And Linus has crafted a rather crafty tribute to the man. Nope, this isn’t a normal mono211 release, but somehow it fitted better here than anywhere else, and some of your survey answers a while back indicated that constant triphop might drive you insane 🙂 so here we go..

Tracklist:
01 – Ewiges Eis [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Ramone – You Know I Got Soul {rel#137}

Artist: Ramone
Title:
You Know I Got Soul
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#137
Release Date:
1998/06/09

A return for Ramone, and it’s just as blunted as usual. Mm, in our opinions, rather wonderful – but then, what do we know, huh? 🙂 Perhaps original because it’s not afraid to be a bit more downtempo than your conventional hiphop-jungle-hybrid. Then again, it could be the schmokes that make us choke. We’ll just slope off then 🙂

01 – You Know I Got Soul [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Artist: Vim!
Title:
More Tea EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#136
Release Date:
1998/05/22

Well, after the controversialness that was the last Mono211 release by Taro, here comes something that’s guaranteed to soothe damaged nerves. As any fule kno, groove is in the heart, and Meester Vim! has it up to his eyeballs. Well, eyeball sockets – he donated his eyes to medical research some time ago and nowadays composes using his long antennae that he’s grown from his gaping eye sockets. He makes strange clicking noises too, and if you listen carefully, the noise that sounds a little like cicadas in the background of these tracks is Vim! rubbing his fangs together and salivating like a little Pavlov’s dog. So now you know.

02 – Ooo that green [XM] [FLAC] [MP3]

Artist: Taro
Title:
Two Girls EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#135
Release Date:
1998/05/17

Well, a guest-release that’s been waiting in the wings for a while, and some very original beats from a different perspective. Taro is half-English and half-Japanese, and lives in Japan, and these are, pretty much unbelievably, his first ever MODs. We like them because they’re ragged but just seem to emanate from.. well, out there somewhere. Enjoy the unconventionalness. 🙂 If you’re interested, check out his pretty damn stylish webpage at http://www2.gol.com/gaijin/tarop/boo.htm 🙂 And thanks again to him for sending us those tracks.
