Artist: Vim!
Title:
Handwash
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:

Release Date:
1999/02/17

words really don’t do this one much justice. it’s borderline insane, it’s somewhere between the drill, the bass, the ambient, and the headfunk.. it’s got those trademark weird-as-hell arpeggios in there, and it’s just brilliance. then again, i’m sure we’re biased? nonetheless, ridiculously good. hopefully if you’re reading this you have it already. if not, go get it, for gawd’s sake. heh, over and out.. oh, it’s neglected because we didn’t release it for a year or more, btw. more fool us 🙂

Substance – Beat For Me {mtw003}

Artist: Substance
Title:
Beat For Me
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw003
Release Date:
1999/02/08

mono211 is proud to present the third mp3 release from da home of da hits. this time round it’s Substance, who provides us with a hard, filtered d+b track with an evil agenda to make your feet tap. But there’s lots of hidden subtlety, both in rhythm and texture, which emerges the more you listen to it. somewhere towards the Bristol d+b sound but tending to echo a less filtered Optical-styled sound, this is the sound of jungle getting lean, mean, and moody just in time for the new millenium.

This one has been waiting in the wings for a very long time – apologies to Prob and Ebb for delaying it. But finally a release for the superlative “Stylez EP” by one of mono211’s foremost Finns and his studio partner, Ebb. There’s actually very little that can be said about this apart from the fact that damn, it’s a classy hiphopjam, and the bonustrack is original and smartstyled too. Oh, please note that real scratching and real sativa extract was used in the making of this track, and readers – don’t try it at home, bwoooyeee 😉 Honey, I got rhythm!

Title:
808 Overdrive
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
REL#159
Release Date:
1999/01/19

Thank you for the music, said Abba. We say similar to Bay Tremore for this eminently bouncy track that assaults your eardrums at somewhere between hiphop, d+b, bigbeat, and heaven only knows what else. Sorta like Fatboy Slim if he came from Finland and listened to more Hardfloor than surf tunes. Now that http://www.mono211.com is up and everything is hunky dory, we’re getting back on track again – musical whizkids, eh, Tzant? 🙂

Tek – Benedict {mtw002}

Artist: Tek
Title:
Benedict
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw002
Release Date:
1999/01/10

woohoo, the second mono211 mp3 is released, just in time for the new website address, and it continues our pledge to release only the best cd-quality tracks on mp3.

anyway, this one comes from a guest-star,arizona’s very own tek, who’s part of the micro.spy dj/live-act collective, and it’s an absolutely firing jungle track with multi-layered guitars, vocal hits, and a real original stylee putting it somewhere between the oldskool jump-up and the ‘brand’ new junglefunk styles, but over and above them. new perspectives on breakbeats from the land of the original funky drummer, that’s what we like to see 🙂

Please note that there’s also a video available for this tune.

first release of 1999, and first release in almost a month from us, too. we’ve been caught up in the webpage being down and the xmas festivities and the kicking and the biting. still, everything back to ‘normal’ now, with some fine new ramone ascii and this wicked new linus ep. it’s been a long time, but it’s been worth the wait.. the blunted boy wonder comes up with some truly organic beats… the clock on the wall silently ticks.. and we hit the repeat button. again. chill out.

Reversions
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:

Release Date:
1998/11/16

Back again on the label with the mono and the 2 and the 1 and the 1, it’s the finnish groove-god hymn-self with some real chilled jazzy action. why _do_ we like the jazz-chill-groove so much? it’s definitely partly to do with the fact we release over the Net, and so people listen at home on their computers.. beats that sound kickass in clubs sometimes sound boring at home, and vice versa, which we think is a mistake a lot of sceners make.

but with our forthcoming videogame and vinyl action you’ll be able to hear our crazy side.. as, in fact, you can with our first mp3 from vim! 🙂 plug over. back to work… oh, if anyone says this track of kuu’s sounds like spandau ballet, we’re gonna have to shoot them 🙂 with a waterpistol 🙂

Artist: Vim!
Title:
Ears Fear
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw001
Release Date:
1998/11/11

the very first in the series of mp3 releases from mono211, and we figured we’d start with one that was a must-download.

so, vim! gives it a go with a _really_ twisted piece of dark jungle, in his own inimitable style. with influences from ed rush to the digital hardcore crew. you’ll only hear this on mp3, and you’ll only get it from mono211, it’s not just a conversion of a 500k XM, it’s worth it.. have we sold you yet? 🙂
