Splif Productions – Year 3040 a.d. {cutoff02}

Artist: Splif Productions
Title:
Year 3040 a.d.
Label:
 CutOff
Catalog #:
 cutoff02
Release Date:
1997/??/??

Splif Productions back on track ! Well they are actually quite active at the moment and this is surely not the last time your gonna hear them on CutOff.
“Year 3040 a.d.” is a strange but nice mixup of different things, maybe due to the altertive of styles. First part got some nice and laid back drums and some funky guitar samples, but a some points it turns a bit messy. Second part, more d&b like and with some atmospheric strings. the introlude and the secondpart of the track is after my opinion the best….. remember to check those sax samples…….

Year 3040

I wanted to do a jazzy kind, laidbak-mellow-launge d&b/jungle trakk.I Had been listening to some guys at roskilde festival and started on this one, after getting alot of insperation from it 8) I started with finding some useable drums, and then making a bassline…. the bass line is OK, not more than that. Got a pretty nice flow to it. then after finding some more samples, i wanted a funky giutar riff on top of it, to lift the track with. sounds nice and cool i think. Then comes the second part. witch is more d&b+ambient stuff. made some filtered drums and squeeched a string out of erhh… maby a jv1080? cant remember really 8) Then i played what i had done for Skzio, and he came up with a few ideas.Its sort of a basic track. not much to it really, well thats my opinon atleast. You should, go and d/l this sucker now and judge for yourself 8)

Substance – Towerhillstreet Jam {cutoff01}

Artist: Substance
Title:
Towerhillstreet Jam
Label:
 CutOff
Catalog #:
 cutoff01
Release Date:
1997/??/??

A new jazzy tune by Substance (aka kuu). You might know him from his numerous release. Rumor has it, that he’s probably one of the best jungle musicians on the tracker scene in Finland, but this one is really gonna surprise you. Nice samples, funky drums, smoky piano all mixed into a nice relaxing track. Hemf…… very nice……. hoping to hear more from the jazzy side of Substance later on.

I got this mail from the CutOff productions where they asked me to track something for them diskmag, at least that’s what it was called at the time. anyway, i promised, as they said they loved my earlier stuff. no problem i thought, kind cool actually. and i started to plan something, but as usual i had several other projects running at the time. like composing music for our live performance, demotapes and also for massive amount of different productions in my own, favourite, amiga scene 🙂 it was tough job to make out and i had to choose from a couple of unfinished tracks, as the time was running too fast. after i planned on some triphop/bigbeat shit, and never got it finished, i started working on this jazzy track “towerhillstreet jam”, which i was quite pleased of. the origin of the track name comes from my street address, that’s a direct translation from my mom language. i sampled some more jazz records and sample cd’s to achieve the atmosphere i was looking for. by the way, those maximum cool vibraphone sounds are from my friends yamaha cs1x synth, some new synths really has the touch, even i persoanlly respect old analogic synths more. but anyway, then finally, i managed to compile a track, which got to be released on their prod, i hope you enjoy the groove. sincerely yours, substance

Apologies to our wikked Australian house-freak for not getting this one out particularly quickly, but our minds were stuck in 4-channel mode, and it took a while to find the multichannel groove again. But phew, what a scorcher. 😉 No wonder Chuck’s the darling of Kosmic fans, MOD4WIN users, and the kitchen sink the world over. Keep me cockatoo cool, willya? 😉

Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#53
Release Date:
1996/12/23

Another Xmas present from us, ourselves, and we, and this time our Danish cookie Relief hits out with a really, umm, swell jungle track. Believe it or not, this is the man at his least abstract. Hah, smoke em if ya got em, that’s what we say. 😛 And float, float away in a sea of otherworldly light until you meet your maker. And then inform him politely that Mono rule and see if he opens the gates? 🙂 Umm, whatever. 😛

Vim! – Plastic EP {MOD#52}

Artist: Vim!
Title:
Plastic EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#52
Release Date:
1996/12/20

The debut EP from rather way-out Mono member Vim!, this serves as a showcase for his, well, totally original style. There sure as hell ain’t many tunes like this coming out, and it makes a refreshing change to hear something different. Even if “Your Cup Of Tea” is so far out, it makes 4T Thieves’ ambient madness sound relatively normal. As far as Mono HQ remembers, Vim! told us this track was composed using all of his homegenerated samples. Mad nuttah. 🙂

Artist: Mortimer Twang
Title:
Wu-Twang Slam EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#51
Release Date:
1996/12/16

Figured it was about time everyone heard sumting new from one of the smartest Mono members, so it’s time for a new EP from the King of Twang, Mr. Tee himself. So we got a wikkid styled jungle in suitably mangled style, and we even got a handsindaair house cut in a style we don’t really hear people doing on the computer. Do we? Anyhow, we rather suspect that this one rules, so chill out and listen.
