After his first release in Monotonik on 2007, the ‘Grating Rainbows’ EP, we are absolutely delighted to present a long in-development full album — ‘Sprinkling Rainbows’ from the UK resident Bitbasic, whose super-funky drill and bass attitude to jazzy electronica makes it one of our favorite label releases of the last few years.

In a similar fashion to earlier Monotonik releases like Aleksi Virta’s album, ‘Grating Rainbows’ cuts up the jazzy breaks with the electronic in entirely alluring ways, with ‘Flannel’ a great initial example of the headnodding, sometimes brain-scrambling stylings. There’s even tremendously evocative Bent-style spaced-out melodies of tracks like ‘Blueish’.

With a full album to choose from, you can yoyo easily between the super fast, funky breaks of ‘Realization’ and the sinewave bleeps of ‘Monos’, before it all ends up with an entirely unexpected, glorious funk attack, as a super-chilled cover of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ starts going terribly, terribly wrong half-way through. And it’s awesome.

Once again, thanks to Bitbasic for letting us put out this album under a Creative Commons license, and we hope you dig it and check out his site for his latest gigs, EPs, single tracks, and other goodness.

Following Julian Winter’s release which received a warm welcome from you, our cute followers, here is a release from Valzi who takes influences from deep in the chip music scene, as Valzi actually comes from the tracking scene, inspiring it with melancholic chords and growing melodies and finally shaping an ambiguous feeling between sorrowness and “joie de vivre,” as we often say in France.

Behind all these clicky beats, taping the time passing by, and these mellow but cute harmonies, there is a real letter of apology, written in notes and surely delivered the cutest way ever, delicately slipped into a pink envelope or even better, inside of its companion cover designed by no one other than Postics, a great illustrator we met at Rouen in October for a very nice exhibition of his work.

‘The tracks are the result of a certain mood, idle hands and an empty head – and this is probably reflected in them’ states Danish producer Danny Kreutzfeldt about his first EP for YukiYaki. Perfectly right!
This Electronicaesque composed of fine cut Ambient sound imagery and IDM and Minimal House grooves does not require a huge philosophical backdrop behind each and every sonic transient. Under typical music-industrial circumstances four gloomy tracks named after Mesopotamian deities might have conjured up a lot of interpretations. But in this case we may just let the pictures arise in our audiovisual cortex without too much higher brain activity.
Though there is still some space for a little bit of brain juggling. For Danny himself ‘Mount Nada’ – as the EP’s title is pronounced correctly – plays with a little paradox: What exactly is a ‘Mountain Of Nothing’?
