As said on the website, it’s been a moment we were thinking about it.
The definition of petite&jolie is clearly in the title, we want to set a cosy place for cute music.

We’ve been taking our time to contact artists we appreciated to be sure to deliver some lovely tunes that would definitly give the artistic line of this netlabel.

So here we are with our first release named “Pantoufle Tagada”, a nice launching compilation for the sake of cuteness

The cuteness will transport you on a pony ride from Purusha’s (Ogredung) progtoytronica to papercutz’s (Apegenine) childtronica, from Doroasako’s progressive folktronica to El zoológico’s pizzicato , passing by Original Recipe’s (Vinyl Republik) fresh pianopop to kaneel’s (Camomille, Ogredung) “joie de vivre” glitchtronics, vim’s (Monotonik) spring melodies to fah’s (Ronin) analog cute-acid without forgetting surasshu’s (Apegenine, Camomille) electro music with video game gimmicks while balùn people (Aerotone) are coming up with their cutey electropop and dot tape dot (spar.RK, NatureBliss) rejoins with his toy harp and trumpet experiments. In the meantime, makunouchi bento (Camomille, Ogredung, One) will delight your ears during a sweet and tender music box interlude for your christmas parties while Nej will come up with some sweet electropop and treacle (BEE Records) will bring back the groove to some cutetronica.

this compilation will act like the exact time-travel machine you needed to bring you back some childhood reminiscences, so we hope you’ll enjoy this 55 minutes long launching compilation as much as we enjoyed setting this all up.

Machinefabriek – Stuip/Staar {[one031]}

Artist: Machinefabriek
Title:
Stuip/Staar
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one031]
Release Date:
2007/07/17

Machinefabriek’s Stuip and Staar are two minimal drone performances captured at the Cross Street Chapel, Manchester (UK) and the Toneelschuurm, Haarlem (NL). Running just under an hour his processed guitar textures rise and fall, stretching their substance through etheral minimalism, slowly evolving epic heights, and moments of sublime symphony.

Rutger Zuyderveit’s work has gained much attention over the past few years through performance, his self-titled imprint, and releases at labels such as Type and Lampse. We’re pleased to have him join our ranks and carry forward the ambient series of One releases previously visited by past alumns such as Loscil, Makunouchi Bento, Kaneel, and Kwook.

Renzu – Reiha EP {mtk187}

Artist: Renzu
Title:
Reiha EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk187
Release Date:
2007/07/21

We’re delighted to debut the first Monotonik release from the Chicago-based Renzu, a professional 3D animator and self-described ‘animation nerd’ and composer of rather deliciously lush IDM soundscapes. And the ‘Reiha EP’ is just a sampling of his layered, deceptively complex electronic music stylings.

Renzu explains of his background: “My story is very typical of my generation of IDM artists in that I got inspired by BBS/internet computer music and started with trackers from an early age (10) and went from there. Following the artists of that general lineage and/or demoscene-relation like Lackluster, Sense, Esem, MD, Proem, Brothomstates and so on — it’s no surprise I’m a fan of Monotonik.”

Well, it certainly makes a lot of sense on the label, with the opening ‘Serifu’ showing cascading rivulets of sound, before the title track ticks along beautifully with an almost Blade Runner-esque alien tinge to the electronics. Other highlights include ‘Akihabara Time-Lapse’, with voices sampled from Japanese talking calendar software, counting up the hours of the day and the days of the month. And ‘Leviathan’ is an epic boom bip of an ending lament. Thanks again to Renzu for providing the noise.

BitBasic – Grating Rainbows {mtk186}

Artist: BitBasic
Title:
Grating Rainbows
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk186
Release Date:
2007/07/01

A triumphant Monotonik debut from glitched-up UK resident BitBasic, whose ‘Grating Rainbows’ EP speeds through 8 tracks in just 18 minutes, and offers a whirlwhind tour to some deliciously cut-up drill & bass action, someone between early Squarepusher, our very own Beak, and somewhere entirely new. Hawesome.

Things start out with the loopy, surreal ‘Soap’, before the lush, hiphop-infused ‘Emaze’ wanders into view, all lyrical jazz riffs and drilled-up drums, gloriously sunny throughout. And what else? Ah, ‘Amen Break Steals The Show’ features an appearance from our favorite loop, apparently, and title track ‘Grating Rainbows’ is light, fleet, and funky as hell.

Overall, then, quite different from some of the more austere, symphonic idm Monotonik puts out, but a floatier, lightier, funkier approach for the summer makes everyone happy, not least our listeners – and we hope to hear more from the dazzling complexities of BitBasic soon.
