Mikrokiko – Temporallynonmunito {od075}

Artist: Mikrokiko
Title:
Temporallynonmunito
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:
od075
Release Date:
2005/05/30

Mikrokiko’s music sounds like a lukewarm pool of half-sunk clicks, a well-thought blending of dub reconstructive cuts and unpretentious micronoises; a boiling cup of resonating waves, where rhythm and melody fluctuate and eventually meld together. Mikrokiko is a tasteful experience of relaxing minimal noise dub (which is strongly recommended to listen to as a whole), something to enjoy with a glass of something and an expansed mind.

Planet Boelex – Second Thoughts EP {mtk147}

Artist: Planet Boelex
Title:
Second Thoughts EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk147
Release Date:
2005/05/29

We’re delighted to present a second EP from Finnish artist Planet Boelex, following his first release for Monotonik in the form of the ‘Sinking In The Soup EP’. Boelex is also known as long-time .MOD artist Tweeter, a noted alumni of early labels such as Voodoo, and continues to delight allcomers with his beautifully composed, wonderfully melodic idm sound – oddly retro, but somehow still relevant.

The ‘Second Thoughts EP’ starts with the slow build of ‘Shower Curtain’, all shimmering melody and regular, gorgeously staged, before ‘Windbreak’ ups the ante with even more gorgeous, smooth electronics, and ‘Seed Of Steel’ vibrates in the air, marvellously circumspect, before we get to the last track, a wonderful remix of ST’s previously Monotonik-released ‘I Met A Girl With Butterfly Wings’, only this time the girl is echo-strewn and distant and inspired and electronic and just so evocative, thanks to the marvel of the Planet that is Boelex.

‘never a dull moment’ is a subtle sine-wave drone accented with gentle fragments of melody and frosted with a soft, creamy distortion. contrary to its title, the entire track is one dull moment – one cozy, dull, entrancing moment that stretches out, then stops before it overstays its welcome.

Girl Boy Moog – Hum The Beat {CANDY006}

Artist: Girl Boy Moog
Title:
Hum The Beat ep
Label:
Candy Mind Records
Catalog #:
CANDY006
Release Date:
2005/05/22

Here we’ve got Girl Boy Moog (a band who took its band name from the three members which is nothing but a boy, a girl and a Moog (a broken Moog that doesn’t work apparently, but nevertheless a Moog.)) and we also got their “Hum The Beat EP” which originally was released in 2001 in a limited edition.

When we asked the members of Girl Boy Moog about re-releasing their masterwork online, as an mp3-release, they said that they really wanted us to do so, cause they lost the tracks a long time ago and wanted to hear the music again themselves…

With “Hum The Beat”, Girl Boy Moog takes us on an unforgettable journey full old trains, cute girls, happy Japanese people and most of all broken Moogs.

1. MORNING EUPHORIA IN TOKYO SUBWAY
Tokyo subway is always busy and full of motion, and this morning is nothing different. But wait!
Everyone’s happy and the station is also full of Japanese people painted in green, red and bright yellow!

2. GETTING ON A TRAIN
Here our train-journey starts. Girl Boy Moog takes up their guitars and sings this song about pretty girls and happy trains. We like it!

3. SHE’S A CATFISH
This is a song about ghost houses, healthy people and communication problems over languages. Who’s a catfish? You’re a catfish? Are there any catfishes at all?? She’s a catfish!

4. ABOUT THE THINGS I HAD TO SAY
Synthesizers, funky guitars, kazoo and Girl Boy Moogs trademark basslines blends in this pretty laidback tune. And Paris is a palindrome. But is it really?

5. HUM THE BEAT
Aren’t you also sitting and humming the beat all day long? Girl Boy Moog is, be sure!

6. TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD (STRAWBERRY ICE MACHINE)
An unforgettable classic, this “Tottenham Court Road (Strawberry Ice Machine). Girl Boy Moog’s singing, “I’ve never been to London.” But we on Candy Mind have heard that the truth is that it’s not true. Apparently both the Girl and the Moog have been to London. The Boy however was forced to stay home. Someone must guard the house you know.

Abstract Hip-Hop grooves and digital cut and paste maneuvers from this new king of the quarter. Four tasty tracks in a cheerful mood of abstract vibes,going from latin deconstructions to more darker and deeper soundtracks.

Tasty ep from this new project generated by Guillermo Guevára, member of the famous duopandamix (static discos). On this four tracks kampion moves us into an urban soundtrack using as vehicle synthetic atmospheres and rhythms that when grouped may be described as abstract laptop-hip hop.

The discrete use of latin percussions helps generating its own identity, where minimalism, idm and street rhythms crossover to create an evocative work that will helplessly lead us to move our body in a dislocated way..

Tracks de funky click house, manipulaciones digitales ludicas de funk, e incluso un homenaje a Murcof, + 2 remixes, uno de Plug y otro del propio Alvaro Ruiz

Funky click house track, digital manipulations of funk, and even a homage to Murcof, + 2 remixes, one of Plug and other of Alvaro Ruiz.

Àlvaro Ruiz, probably the most prolific electronic music producer from our country, known for his projects Ruisort, Balboa and his real name as an ambient producer, were he combines algorithms and atmospheres. Filtro presents “Safety Positions”, originally produced in 2001, but unknown until today, except “safety position #4 (Leda y el fucking gansito)”, which was included in the compilation “Minimas Texturas 001” from Discos Konfort, this EP sounds effective and fresh. The references are from Jan Jelinek and Thomas Jitku to Vladislav Delay, and a tribute to Murcof. Safety Positions, title based on security cards from airplanes, goes from funky click house in the first two tracks, to playful digital funk worlds and extravagant as the fourth episode, and the imaginary dialog between Murcof and Dr. Farabeuf. Kplecraft – KNMS-001 {mtk146}

Artist: Kplecraft
Title:
KNMS-001
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk146
Release Date:
2005/05/08

In tracking some of the more obscure niches of the Japanese retro-bleep music scene, Monotonik has picked up a gem or two in the past (see: Blasterhead). And we’re pleased to say that we’ve struck oil again (or at least, some gushing black pixels) with the first album from Japanese duo Kplecraft, ‘KNMS-001’, a deliciously alternative blend of Game Boy bleep and jazz-techno improvisation.

Here’s what you need to know. Kplecraft consists of Kuske (Nintendo Game Boy with Nanoloop 1.2, saxophone, effects, etc.) and Eddie (percussion, conga, etc.) It is, more or less, a bleep side project of the Japanese jamband PCIA, in a similar way, perhaps, that Eat Static and Ozric Tentacles interact, and oddly enough, it’s the blend of jamming and solid electronic beats that somewhat recall both of those bands, as well as other marvellous oddities like the Holistic Records crew from the Isle Of Wight.

For ‘KNMS-001’, we start with the mechanical jolt of ‘Rupa’, all robot perfection before the echosaturated saxophone jamming kicks in, and its straight into the delicious mix of real instrument and robotic backing that permeates the entire album. Particular highlights? The rather beautiful, swirling melodies of ‘718 Suite: Part 1’, and the half bleep, half insane freak-out that is ‘NNNN’, before finishing with two songs that are .NSF (NES sound chip) only, with ‘8-Bit Goa’ a surprisingly expansive and fitting finish. Rock.
