put all your faith in us and be rewarded. one thing which bothers us here at the headquarters is that there are some damn individuals who have been following up voodoo all the way from it’s beginning and still are whining about our small amount of releases. to make it clear now i’m saying it for the last time. we concentrate on quality, not quantity and if it doesn’t fit into your ideal world then sod off. as a bit more positive note we got a new member to our forces. welcome s!nist3ra to the group!

this track had been lying on my harddisk for an week or so until i grabbed it to my next project. the track itself consists of analogic sounds and again is pretty simple one. that however is one of the interesting bits, to fiddle around analogic samples and put them in layers. you may notice that the two main instruments are working on two whole melodies on the same time.

Prob. – Emotion EP {mtk042}

After a longish period of hibernation, Dice, aka Prob., the Finnish breaks-guru who’s a longtime Dharma collaborator and has previous and forthcoming 12″ releases on Audio Couture, Straight Up Breakbeat and Formation, comes up with a gem of a mini-EP for Monotonik in his more laidback Prob. guise.

First up is the title track, “Emotion”, a wonderfully horizontally-inclined d+b-flecked track, reminiscent of some of the output on Certificate 18, perhaps – all insistent snares and pirouetting bass, but with an overlying melodic structure that’s simply creamy.

Twin that with the remix of Prob+Mirko’s “Body Rock” track, the original of which has already been requisitioned for a public-access interpretative dance TV show, “Praise You”-style, we kid you not, and we think you’ll find the perfect duo. The “Body Rock – Remix” is almost Kernkraft-catchy in a ‘only slightly less cheesy DMX Krew’ stylee, and overhauls the original into a more complete piece of electro madness, if that’s possible. And check the irresistable whitneyhoustonesque keychange for the last verse? Scoore..

A nice catchy melody and sweeping pads on a synth sequence that starts from the very beginning of the tune build a catchy on-going iem track. The pads really add a nice edge to this tune. Almost from the beginning comes along also the drum line. The comp is fast and simple. The drum sounds are maybe a bit too thin though. A bit more bass and punchier drums would suit this track perfectly if you ask me. Though there’s not much happening in this tune it still doesn’t get boring – the clever usage of fading out drum or melody tracks keeps this tune going.

Spark – Fotoc {release #90}

“Fotoc” is a beautiful combination of chillout ambient melodies and harsh distorted drum line. The drums aren’t aggressive and don’t take over the tune as they often tend to do in this genre of music. The comp is rather a minimal brushing sound of some kind. The main thing in this track are the melodies. They are played with sine-like leads and a harsher lo-fi electronic sound. Fotoc is a nice ambient tune that will stay on my playlist for the rest of the winter. And there are plenty more Spark tunes available at mp3.com/spark.

Long-awaited and finally sorted, this 4-track EP is from US artist Proem, previously known for his excellent “Burn Plate No.1” album on Hydrant and supa compilation appearances on Toytronic and Kracfive.

EP opener, “Hyla1”, takes us deep into drone territory, echoing and subtly glitching like sonar waves, before “Romanian Fruit Bowl” cuts loose with spacey multi-layers of minimalist loop-free drill+drum action.

“Access Mike” switches up a gear into cicada-like percussion and politely sledgehammer bassdrum action with delicate melodies floating over the top, and “Romanian Vegetable Platter” finishes things, marvellously, on an octave-down, forceful approximation of a pleasant whirlwind floating through your immediate area.

It’s always a pleasure to introduce someone new onto Monotonik, and in this case, it’s German composer and DJ, Crashkid, who brings a more organic, acoustic edge to our sound with this 2-track EP.

“Stair” is almost hiphop-like in its rhythmically shuffling beats, but with structured guitar overlays and subtle phrasing, you can see why Crashkid counts My Bloody Valentine alongside more conventional electronica as some of his main influences.

The second half of the EP, “Telerain”, brings more picked acoustic guitar loops over gorgeous sinewave chords – mm, forbidden tones of devilish attractiveness have seduced us.
