Substance – Zenith Aura EP {MOD#010}

Artist: Substance
Title:
Zenith Aura EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#010
Release Date:
1996/05/25

Well, the debut Mono release from Substance is an EP of some of the best trance-MODs I’ve ever heard. Yeah, yeah, I’m biased, but who can deny that these tunes kick considerable ass? “Zenith Aura” throws the percussion round like some serious mechanical maniacs got let loose in your computer, “Monotone” phases and hits like a pipe-toking robot bad-ass mofo, and “Trips Of Orange Capsules” is flowing, experimental, and relaxing all at once. There ain’t no doubt that this is one of the best Mono releases so far, so enjoy it while it lasts. 🙂

Tracklist:

Artist: Subi
Title:
Space Junkie
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#009
Release Date:
1996/05/22

Another Subi release, another completely indescribable but pretty damn cool piece of elektronik musik. This one’s quite old now, but definitely still worth releasing.. _definitely_, hehe. Subi’s given me the list of samples he used for this mutha, and interested parties might like to know the main sample is from Mukkaa “Neebro”, and the other samples come from Subi himself, Tango, The Prodigy, Dream Frequency, NRG, and Love Decade. Classy, maaan. Wind it up. 🙂

Hollywood – Byte Me {MOD#008}

Artist: Hollywood
Title:
Byte Me
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#008
Release Date:
1996/05/19

This song is something I’ve been playing with for a while now – mainly I’m too busy at uni to concentrate on songs, but I finally got round to finishing this one. I think it’s fairly original, and there’s no drum loops, etc (everything came from a few sample CDs, as individual instruments.) I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

Various Artists – R:emissions EP {MOD#007}

Artist: Various Artists
Title:
R:emissions EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#007
Release Date:
1996/05/16

Welcome to “R:emissions” , the first remix EP released by da funky dreads at Mono. This selection of beatz includes a very special guest, in the form of our hombre Supernao. Expect to hear more stuff from him released via Mono, and soon.

A few notes on the songs: “Akai Patch Kids” was originally a short drum+bass workout by Supernao, and was re-re-mixed by h0l. The original remix title was “Garbage Patch Kids”. 🙂 Total remixing time was about 2 hours (1 hour from Supernao and 1 hour from h0l.)

The Dreamfish remix of “Tribute” is one of my favourite Mono releases ever, and dare I say it improves on an already classic song? I think I do. Analogue squelch meets fluid techno meets swirling breakbeat, yum. Watch out for some further solo Dreamfish releases in the near future, ah-haaah jimlad.

Finally, the bonus track remix by Supernao is a cute little piece of electronica. Beep beep beep beeeep bep bep bp b etc… nice stuff.

Tracklist:
01 – Dreamfish, Supernao, Hollywood – Adults (Akai Patch Kids Remix) [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]
02 – TheFoxII, Dreamfish – Tribute (Warp Engine Mix) [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]
03 – Dreamfish, Hollywood, Supernao – Time Slip (Butterfly Wings Remix) [MOD] [FLAC] [MP3]

Iso – Paramagic Dancer {MOD#006}

Artist: Iso
Title:
Paramagic Dancer
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#006
Release Date:
1996/05/11

Iso’s first release for Mono sees him kickin’ it with a very smart tune indeed. It’s interesting because it’s subtly different from most jungle out there at the moment – less snapshotfast, more trancelike, almost. Cool stuff, whatever. 🙂

Artist: Carebear
Title:
Farawayadventure
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#005
Release Date:
1996/05/08

This debut release by Carebear is a wonderfully tranquil, meandering ambient piece. Not without beats, but with enough mellow percussion to give you that totally horizontal feeling. 🙂 You only need to check the songtext to get all the information you need, forever. “The answer is in your mind”.

Release Date:
1996/05/04

Well, this tune has had a limited release before, but it’s such a great remix that we wanted to make sure it got _properly_ spread. Listen to those breakbeats roll, and enjoy. Oh, and turn up the sub-bass. 🙂

Subi – Subi’s Back {MOD#003}

Artist: Subi
Title:
Subi’s Back
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#003
Release Date:
1996/05/01

Subi’s debut Mono release, and an example of his inimitable, pretty much indescribable style. All I can say is that nobody else is composing MODs quite like this at the moment, and the closest parallel I can think of for his work is the Utah Saints. 🙂 Poor old Subi has been stuck on an A500 up to now (maximumlength of MODs 350k for him!), but now he’s getting an A1200, expect some real big new tunes. He IS back. [for old-skool Amiga fans, Subi used to be called Subculture, you may have heard some of his stuff back in ’91 and ’92!]

TheFoxII – Tribute Remix {MOD#002}

Artist: TheFoxII
Title:
Tribute Remix
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#002
Release Date:
1996/04/28

This wikked track was composed by TheFoxII last year, but not given a proper release, so Mono is happy to give it the attention it deserves. Some cute acid leanings, great dynamics, kicking percussion/effects, and those heavenly chords make this MOD a journey into headspace you won’t forget in a hurry. No, we really do like it. 😉

Twilight – Return {Mono#001}

Artist: Twilight
Title:
 Return
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
Mono#001
Release Date:
1996/04/22

The first Amiga tune from Twilight for almost 2 years sees him in original hip-hop influenced territory. 🙂 Twilight’s currently the in-game musician at Graftgold, the UK software company behind such classics as “Uridium”, and he’s currently working on the PSX and Saturn conversion of one of the very best Amiga games ever (hint: it’s an arcade conversion itself!) We hope to hear lots more from _this_ Twilight pretty soon. By the way, this is the English Twilight, not the German Twilight who was in Absolute+Lego and composed tunes with Doc Holliday (?). Not is it the Norwegian Twilight (!) Jeez, there’s enough Twilights around. 🙂
