Prob. – Skyline {rel#22}

Artist: Prob.
Title:
Skyline
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#22
Release Date:
1998/06/29

Mm, just like lying in the grass somewhere around the Cretaceous period, this is very much a Sunday four million years ago song from our man in SF Prob. Well, ok, it goes a little disquietingly snare-rushed later, but that’s just the flocks of pterodactyls swooping overhead.. they won’t bother you. Don your shades and enjoy the sunshine.. only 600,000 years ’til that asteroid lands, no hurry.

Linus – Ewiges Eis {rel#138}

Artist: Linus
Title:
Ewiges Eis
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#138
Release Date:
1998/06/22

Mmm. For Linus’ first release as a member of mono211, he breaks out the originality potion for a tribute to most excellent film director and composer, John Carpenter. Famous in the 70s for pictures such as “Escape From New York”, “The Thing”, and “Assault on Precinct 13”, many people think Carpenter was one of the fathers of modern electronic music, with his sparse electronic scores for his movies. And Linus has crafted a rather crafty tribute to the man. Nope, this isn’t a normal mono211 release, but somehow it fitted better here than anywhere else, and some of your survey answers a while back indicated that constant triphop might drive you insane 🙂 so here we go..

Title:
Darn Martians EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
rel#21
Release Date:
1998/06/17

Thanks to Moon for lending us his ears and some absolutely great tunes for the purposes of a special guest releasoid. Elvis has left the building and is currently residing in the canals of Mars where he is building a new life for himself.. argh.. consider this a divorce? Anyway, Moon has joined him there and is Elvis’ special parliamentary advisor on techno music and the language of the bass drum.. and this is his missive to us from the red planet. Are we making any more sense now?

Ramone – You Know I Got Soul {rel#137}

Artist: Ramone
Title:
You Know I Got Soul
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#137
Release Date:
1998/06/09

A return for Ramone, and it’s just as blunted as usual. Mm, in our opinions, rather wonderful – but then, what do we know, huh? 🙂 Perhaps original because it’s not afraid to be a bit more downtempo than your conventional hiphop-jungle-hybrid. Then again, it could be the schmokes that make us choke. We’ll just slope off then 🙂

Well, after a short break we return with another sparkly jingly jangly cityblockwrecking techno track courtesy of the rather chopsockystyled Zyad. Watch him kick, punch, and shouldercharge his way to victory in the sonic stakes whilst the competition shudders. competition is none, as our foreign friends often say when they’re overexcited 🙂 woohoo! Ok, we’ll stop making sense now.

Vim! – More Tea EP {rel#136}

Artist: Vim!
Title:
More Tea EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#136
Release Date:
1998/05/22

Well, after the controversialness that was the last Mono211 release by Taro, here comes something that’s guaranteed to soothe damaged nerves. As any fule kno, groove is in the heart, and Meester Vim! has it up to his eyeballs. Well, eyeball sockets – he donated his eyes to medical research some time ago and nowadays composes using his long antennae that he’s grown from his gaping eye sockets. He makes strange clicking noises too, and if you listen carefully, the noise that sounds a little like cicadas in the background of these tracks is Vim! rubbing his fangs together and salivating like a little Pavlov’s dog. So now you know.

Artist: Taro
Title:
Two Girls EP
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
rel#135
Release Date:
1998/05/17

Well, a guest-release that’s been waiting in the wings for a while, and some very original beats from a different perspective. Taro is half-English and half-Japanese, and lives in Japan, and these are, pretty much unbelievably, his first ever MODs. We like them because they’re ragged but just seem to emanate from.. well, out there somewhere. Enjoy the unconventionalness. 🙂 If you’re interested, check out his pretty damn stylish webpage at http://www2.gol.com/gaijin/tarop/boo.htm 🙂 And thanks again to him for sending us those tracks.

Distance – Mabo {rel#19}

Artist: Distance
Title:
Mabo
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:

Release Date:
1998/05/12

Distance wanted to try something he considered closer to ‘conventional’ techno.. so he did.. and.. well, put this on, lie down, and just float away into the ether. Fragile but just so beautiful, this proves beyond a doubt that he is the Finnish god of the drifting airwaves. No arguments, now. or ever.

Artist: Mortimer Twang
Title:
Black Sista Classics Vol.1
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
MOD#134
Release Date:
1998/05/08

Well, straight out of the vaults of the wondrousness that is Black Sista, the first in a number of classic releases for Mortimer Tee tracks. Remember to catch the BS! kidz at http://www.publishnet.nl/~orlingo, And remember, composing jazzy funky hiphop stuff like Mortimer does _is_ big. and clever. 😉 Watch out for new material from him on both Black Sista and Mono211, pretty darn soon. Can you wait?

[btw, some people might doubletake, since these Mortimer tracks are allegedly ‘already released’. well, put it this way, the spreading was such that even us here at Mono211 hadn’t heard them until a few days ago, so we figured the chance to give them a wider audience is pretty unmissable. case closed?]
