Release Date:

We’re delighted to get the chance to release a new track from Australian electronica royalty and oldtime Monotonik releasers, Pretty Boy Crossover, aka PBXO. Previously, we released a couple of their tracks related to their excellent first Surgery CD, “The Building And Formation”, and since then, they’ve released another EP, “Any Number Can Play”, on Clan Analogue, and are gearing up for new releases on Surgery and C0C0S0L1DC1T1, as well as new tracks from the group they share members with, Other People’s Children, on 555 and Morr Music.

Anyhow, “17 Steps” is all gorgeously languid, slow motion melodies, a breath of fresh air when only stuffiness and restriction rules the roost. The curiously hypnotic percussion buzzes, the almost shoegaze-styled melodies hum, and all is good with the world, if only for those four minutes and thirtynine seconds. Hurrah for the pretty boys and their crossover skills, eh?

[Thanks to Tony @ Kinglux for the excellent cover-art.]

Us here @ Monotonik are delighted to release a second mp3 from Australian duo, Pretty Boy Crossover, aka PBXO. Their album, “The Building And Formation”, formerly to be released on Skam before indecision set in down Manchester-way, is due for release any day now on Surgery Records, the Australian label we’ve been forging close ties with of late. And with PBXO supporting Arab Strap on their recent Melbourne appearance, the force is strong with these Australian wunderkind, no?

So, “Autumn Week” is a mellow as yellow, hi-hat-toting float through the lands of the etherea, with beautifully phrased synths dropping in and out, plus the quiet babble of voices eternal. Thus, not only is this beautiful, it’s fragile – and fragility leads to tranquility in PBXO’s unique universe.

Due to our Thug-ish connections, Monotonik seems to be specialising in fragile idm from the cream of the new talent coming out of Australia right now.

So here’s another label debut, from Pretty Boy Crossover (PBXO for short, but they prefer it long and ambiguous, and don’t you forget it..) They’re a duo who’ve been around for a few years now, developing their gently individual sound all the while, and recently signed to Skam, home of.. well, a whole buncha famous people (Gescom, Bola, etc.)

PBXO have a 12″ and album due out on Skam this summer, apparently. But rest assured, you won’t be paying 300 bucks for this mp3 on Ebay, a la ‘Lego Feet’, cos, umm, it’s free. Thanks again to the PBXO guys for allowing Monotonik to put this out, and remember – buy their material when it comes out, support Monotonik artists doing the real-world thing.

Incidentally, try Pretty Boy Crossover’s webpage at: http://pleasurecraft.va.com.au/pbxo/index.html for more info and party favors.
