Aquaboogie – Little Star EP {mtk048}

Artist: Aquaboogie
Title:
Little Star EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk048
Release Date:
2001/03/03

A return visit to Monotonik from New Zealand-based artist Aquaboogie, and again his very distinctive, almost dreamily spaced-out electronics surface from the Antipodean haze.

First up, “Little Star” brings a kinda Isan-ish calm and simplicity to an ambient haze of a track, with angelic, metallic, computer-generated lullaby over the top of some delightfully re-focusing strings.

Then, “Insecure Robot” brings another Adams-ian piece of whimsy to life, whether intentionally or accidentally, with blooped-up electro and paranoid androids going a little barmy on the emotion front. Punk to funk, super electro style..

DJ Nova – Starshipoetry {mtw019}

Artist: DJ Nova
Title:
Starshipoetry
Label:
Mono211
Catalog #:
mtw019
Release Date:
2001/02/21

A second release for the revitalised Mono211 breakbeat sublabel, and this time, Slovenian musician and DJ Nova, having previously been responsible for a bunch of the DJ mixes we’ve put out (including ‘Oldskoolmonotonikantiks’ and the Elektroblef releases..), hits us with his first original mp3 release on Mono211, the excellent “Starshipoetry”.

Every fule know that essential parts of the perfect tune include messed-up Douglas Adams samples and mixed-up beep noises, leading up to solid-as-rawk breakbeats and cut-up bass-snare action, and so DJ Nova follows this to a tee, providing another indescribable, not quite d+b, almost nu-skool breaks release for Mono211. Just wait for the main break to hit and make that headnod pilgrimage all the way to Lourdes. Or Lords, if you’re a Krikkit-er.

DJ Cowbell – Bumpshaltr {mtk047}

Artist: DJ Cowbell
Title:
Bumpshaltr
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk047
Release Date:
2001/02/14

As a special Valentine’s Day release for Monotonik, we’re truly proud to present an elusive release from the reclusive DJ Cowbell.

“Bumpshaltr” is the first mp3 ever to be released from the master of broken beats, who first gained fame by spinning solely to a bovine audience in the Mid-West USA, and whose live sets frequently result in region-wide ‘state of emergency’ alerts and large numbers of sonic casualties, some permanently unable to ever listen to power ballads again.

So, in our quest to find something truly fitting for such a romantic occasion, we felt “Bumpshaltr”, with its careful counterpoint of noise, sound, and , well, more sound, fits our aegis (sonix) perfectly.

So sit down with your loved one this V-Day, open a carefully chilled Chianti, dim the lighting, and relax with this beautifully crafted message from Monotonik to you..

i’m happy to present you this newborn song. i hope you enjoy it just as much as any other of the previous releases. i came up with the idea for a new track after been fiddling with roland soundcanvas sk-88 pro. i really got into the melody while playing and it inspired me to continue with this project. i’m pretty satisfied with the result, allthough it’s not the best i’ve done.

i know it’s sad, and i considered well before making the decision. after so long time of inactivity, i decided to retire both, orlingo and roz. it was a really hard decision to make but because of their lack of time and motivation for tracker music, it had to be done. i hope they’ll see it from my view and have no hard feelings towards me. before this, voodoo had already become a group of only 4 active members.

chunky bits.
