Simon Bennett aka Kwook makes his first mark at One by introducing this classy touch of ambience and sound exploration. Finding rhythms in washing machines, peeling tangerines, painting melancholy.. whatever they are, to try and pin down the sources and mentality behind a collection labeled as Immiscible stikes us as being counter productive to the process.

Bennett unravels a peek within his wide tapestry of style on this release, from the opening movement of cloudhopper to the familiar warming questions of psychopomp. As long time fans and after a month of waiting, we’re excited to release this solid work of eccentricity and exploration.

These bites of electro, techhouse, idm and ambience by Axel Bergk further dig into the minimalist corners of One. Often exploring disharmony made naturual by under-pinned hooks, subtle changes, atmospheric textures, and repetition.

Just shy of an hour, Ecru is a long player that with patient listening reveals a comfortable coherence. While being mostly minimal and beat driven it doesnt fail to recall the emotion or experience thats important to every release selected here. Tracks like Inphyne represent his techniques within a 12” beat-laden world, while Comolei and others explore the ambient side of things, bringing the atmospheres into the forefront. Mix in some elements of dub for good measure.

It’s good to come back to what you know, and we felt like UK artist Braces Tower, previously member of the Wiija-signed, Radiohead-supporting, Peel Session-ing Loveblobs way back in the mists of time, was due another release on Monotonik with his delightful blend of sass, electronics, and intelligent sampledelica, since his first ‘Pshhh EP’ was so well received by all a year or two back. So we asked him nicely, and the round-up compilation ‘Pasteism’ is the unholy result.

So there’s a great deal of diversity across the 8 tracks of ‘Pasteism’, from the opening, wonderfully languid meanderings of ‘Action Jackson’, seguing straight into the frantic skank of ‘El Fuego’ – and the hits just keep on coming from there. Some of the other highlights? Let’s try the sophisticated jazz of ‘Spelling Bee’, the funky Sesame-ish groove of ‘Eleven Twelve’, and the ending, tremendously blissed out nu chill of ‘Nameless’. We’re not nameless, but we are speechless.
