Catalog #:
[one012]
Release Date:
2004/08/01

These songs from mid 2003 to early 2004 were compiled for a recent live performance at Standard Deviation. The mix derived from an earlier demo cd with songs from 2003, but newer songs have been added and some updated. This release is 1 track shy of the box cd, which includes the song ‘underlined (alt)’.

Other than the APM side project, this is the first full netlabel release from Plosive, the founder of One. Being just under 37 minutes, its crammed with music but still manages to give you the room to listen and think. A union of rhythm, ambience, melodic hooks and often dubby basslines constantly shifts the main focus between emotion, memory, and groove ..

Dataman – Noetik Pt.2 {COM07}

Artist: Dataman
Title:
Noetik Pt.2
Label:
 Comatronic
Catalog #:
COM07
Release Date:
2004/07/31

We are proud to announce Part 2 of Dataman’s minimal techno extravaganza ‘Noetik’. This release starts off with the epic bouncer ‘Nosologie’ which features classic elements from dub – tech and mystic soundscapes that pave the way for the slightly darker arrangements of ‘Ethos’, a very atmospheric yet driving minimal track. ‘Iktus’ makes use of a different approach and combines interlaced beat structures with corresponding sound snippets that seem to put the relation between chaos and order in question.

Talk Show Host is an italian 4-men electronic project, pendling between IDM and noise-ambient, highend glitch and clicky warmth; Città Sottili is a whole journey passing through catchy ambient-driven intelligent electronics (being Harlem the pearl here), poppy beats, micronoises and warm sub-drumsets (Lisbon), all growing and living in eighteen pleasant minutes; a masterpiece of its kind, really recommended.

Ilkae – Stained Glass Confetti EP {mtk133}

Artist: Ilkae
Title:
Stained Glass Confetti EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk133
Release Date:
2004/07/16

Having released an EP back in 2002 from the sometime duo, nowadays largely uno Ilkae, aka Canada’s Aaron Munson, we were delighted when we heard Ilkae had a new 777-copy limited edition CDR out, called ‘Stained Glass Pinata’. What’s more, he wanted to mix up a couple of the tracks from it with some more exclusive songs for a Monotonik release as the cunningly named ‘Stained Glass Confetti EP’. In fact, we were so delighted that we let him do it. So he did. So we released it. And this is it.

So, if you’ve heard Ilkae’s previous ‘Pistachio Island’ CD on Merck Records, you’ll know the basic modus operandi – rather gorgeously scattershot electronica with both chiptune and idm influences. From the get-go with ‘The Lockpick Almanac’, we can dig the lush sounds and ever-so-slightly abstracted melodies, and ‘Outfoxing A Unicorn’ spaces things out further with a marvellously weird jig of a track, before ‘Tin Crow’ brings things home with obtuse atom-spherics and weightlifter class complexity.

To sum up – if you like the companion piece enough, consider wandering over to Ilkae’s site (http://www.ilkae.com/) and picking up the entire ‘Stained Glass Pinata’ experience. If not, then you can just thank Ilkae for bustin’ open the pinata, and letting you pick up some of the goodies from within. Mm, sweet edible melodies.

Makunouchi Bento – Trcutu {[one020]}

Artist: Makunouchi Bento
Title:
Trcutu
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one020]
Release Date:
2005/07/04

This latest offering from Makunouchi Bento is a special one indeed – interpretation of and sound excursion into a few of their favorite classical compositions by such powerful and original composers as Erik Satie, Anton Arensky, Maurice Ravel., they hold nothing back while adapting them within the Mabento realm.

With its twists of melancholy, nostalgia, and even childlike amusement – Trcutu manages to hold onto a genuine historical and aesthetic interest found within some of the originals. At times picking up the melodies and running them through the spontaneity and textural styles of their own; while at others working not just from the originals but the influence and atmosphere felt by listening to them.

Vim! – A Random Collection Of Consonants {mtk132}

Artist: Vim!
Title:
A Random Collection Of Consonants
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk132
Release Date:
2004/06/27

We’ve now been releasing tracks from UK electronic wunderkid Vim! for, well, seven and a half years, on both .MOD and this ‘new-fangled’ .MP3. That’s quite a long time, certainly by netlabel standards. And since we started up, he’s released albums on Surgery Records, remixes on Merck and Carpark, and a host of EPs on Monotonik. So, we’re now delighted to be able to present an MP3 version of his recent, _extremely_ smart, _extremely_ limited edition CDR, ‘A Random Collection Of Consonants’, on Monotonik.

So, those who have the original, CD-quality, uhh, CD, count yourselves lucky (there still may be a few copies left at http://www.vimster.demon.co.uk/cdr/ if you want the physical artifact itself), but otherwise, cruise with us through 16 tracks of gorgeously skewed beats, continually unexpected melodies, and a wonderfully obtuse take on life.

Therefore, whether it’s the title track blasting out wonky scattershot percussion, ‘Merton Court Mash- Up’ cunningly folding jungle and yummy arpegiation, ‘A Tune Of Sorts’ absolutely jammin’ the chiptune vs breaks angle, and the crazy mush of ‘Signing On Makes My Fortnight’ turning up the bleep bass to the full. If Vim! is insistent on remaining an obscure genius, perhaps you guys could at least spread the word a little? Wethangyou.
