Twile – Chiaroscuro {COM12}

Artist: Twile
Title:
Chiaroscuro
Label:
 Comatronic
Catalog #:
COM12
Release Date:
2005/04/30

COM12 comes from Helsinki-based artist Twile. His aim is to make music which is intimate yet spacy, intensive yet hazy. It is about combining abstract and melodic elements, in attempt to create spacy, dub-orientated tracks saturated with sadness.

The title-track “Chiaroscuro” can be described as a laid-back, ambient-like piece of electronic music. With clear references to the oldschool, “True Bohemian” takes you on a melancholic journey through space and time.

This release comes with two remixes done by Dataman and Joko13. Joko13’s spacy version of “Chiaroscuro” comes fully equipped with echoing chords, deep bass and intensive click-rhythms while Dataman’s playful remix of “True Bohemian” with its earthy feel and heavy beats shows distinct tendencies towards being what we call a timeless headknock anthem.

Planet Boelex – No Business Like {od078}

Artist: Planet Boelex
Title:
No Business Like
Label:
 Ogredung
Catalog #:
od078
Release Date:
2005/04/20

A refined meeting between eccentric perfection and vibrating rhythms has always distinguished Planet Boelex’s works amidst the releases in the catalogue of any label really; discrete hints, beats like opaque diamonds set in sweet and inspiring harmonies. A track like a hidden secret, pulsating, enterprising, but perfectly structured IDM, drawn as a sensual figure provided with an enwrapping sensuality. Planet Boelex is lovable, for his apparent semplicity, for his crystal-like grooves, for the fluid rhythmic pattern that writes a little story, a shiver.

Transient – Be EP {mtk145}

Artist: Transient
Title:
Be EP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk145
Release Date:
2005/04/17

First things first – American artist Transient’s ‘Over The River And Through The Woods’ on the One netlabel was probably our favorite netlabel release of 2004 – gorgeous laidback electronics that deserve approximately a million listens. And, since we loved the ‘Ancient EP’ he put out on Monotonik a couple of years back, we asked him nicely for an exclusive new EP for us. So he delivered, and now we have the beautifully mixed-up melodics of the puntastically titled ‘Be EP’.

Starting out, we have ‘Ice’, a great stepping-off point for the experience, with pin-sharp percussion and dreamy melodies firmly to the fore. Then we get gratifyingly choppy, with ‘Pinocchio Jazzhands’ a strutting, funky electronic melange. A brief pause, with ‘Treelighting Ceremony…’ and its constant ambient waves, and ‘The Triumphant Return Of The Vigorous Chipmunk’ blasts up a continuation of a theme on Transient’s last Monotonik EP with aplomb. Finally, ‘Ace’ provides a counterpoint for ‘Ice’ and ends things off in style, all pulsing, almost Steve Reich-tinged swirling, repeating melodies with strange, wondrous complexity – marvellous.

alien waves lap against a shore of soothing, yet desolate tones, zipping forwards and backwards in time while being gently punctuated by soft metallic stabs and scrapes. the morphing mass of sound resembles that of a chugging train at times, at others like the genesis of some imaginary violinsaxophone-harp hybrid… deeply evocative of a dense cloud formed of mixed emotions and half-faded memories.

Dewtone
Catalog #:
dt005
Release Date:
2005/04/07

dewtone’s debut ep brings forth a minute, yet tasteful selection of electronic composition.

tom dinchak’s solo project, “phortran” starts the release off with a chilly melancholy lullaby. wrapped in deep sweeps and laced with that lovely idm-style beat programming we expect to find in most of his music. quickly, newcomer quone kicks things into high gear with a tactful, upbeat, glitch-trip thriller entitled, “seeking new advances”.

headphone science, aka david craig (founder of illmatik vibes), makes his first appearance on dewtone with a piece called, “endoh michiyo”. captivating melodic atmospheres and trademark broken-break rhythms. then settle comfortably into your chair as bend, sinister deliver again with another delicious jazzy dew drop titled, “leave her good graces”.

we are also proud to re-introduce an aspiring electronic composer named james zdrowski (otherwise known as ontagon). elevation’s dreamy outro track “forget to remember” serves up touching, quality vocal work and resonated progression on a warm plate of soothing pads + synth. released originally on his break-out ep entitled, “forgetful“. superb.
