One of the luckiest incorporations to Filtro’s virtual catalogue is the first EP from Emmerichk, an EP that is released after several years of exhaustive in-site immersion in idm and techno, genres that this producer travels within his first production for our label.

Strongly inspired in the Urantia Book and its elaborated cosmogonía, the five original tracks and one remix integrate the experienced work of several years behind musical production with digital tools, and find a solid and forceful expression in this reference to the universes of creative energies in incessant transition.

One of the most fortunate incorporations to filtro’s virtual catalog is Emmerichk’s first ep. He’s presented to the audience after some years of exhaustive in-site immersion in idm and techno exploration, wich he aplies on this first production experience with filtro. Starting from a conceptual point of strong inspiration taken from the Book of Urantia and its complex cosmogony.

The five original tracks and the bonus remix integrate the work of an experience acquiered from years behind the musical production with digital tools, and find a solid expresion in this reference to the universes of creative energies in non-stop transition. The capacity of giving a sound interpretation to lives, worlds, universes, dimensions and entities of a dinamic system, which is the ideal platform for musical elucubrations.

On a splendid construction of atmospheres in manipulated idm of rythmic micro-structures, mixed and made with a fine elocution of clicks and cuts, wich transit organic structures that in luminous moments paint sound landscapes with dancefloor mode.

Urantia gives esoterical sense of cosmic consecuences in the sensory experiences emanated from the blips and clicks that in minimal structures harmonically collide to create rythms that go from the most primitive movement to the pleasure of a dancefloor that comes to life.

On the first two tracks of “Frandalanke” and “Kanon 2.0” the artist designs a wallpaper aura that takes smooth rythmic architectures and foggy scales.

These years being apart from the scene have not impeded Emmerichk from manifesting an amazing sensitiveness within the dancefloor functions, as made clear in the pieces “Kronboldeke”, “Morontia” and “Lanondadek”, where minimal constructions integrate with soft emotional explosions even close to microhouse.

The bonus on this ep, “Frandalanke (Bifidus dub remix)”, is Bifidus’ deconstructive exercise that manages to recreate the fundamental bases of this piece to give it a dub identity, with an overpowering bass and re-engineering of the original sounds.

Looking for drugs in the wrong places, the return of Subnor (Juan Manuel Arias Aka Nasty) to the catalogue of Filter. An EP that shows an artistic evolution and renewal of Subnor that surprises even to those familiarized with the creative potential of Nasty . Oni-ric frequencies taken from a sonorous sea in a rythmical frame a la idm in a totally personal joint in which Subnor has begun to develop songs of an intriguing nature.

For Drugs in a Wrong Place.

Subnor is Juan Manuel Arias, aka Nasty, project, musician and designer born in Mexico City. The trajectory of Nasty inside the local sceneof electronic music can be raked until his activities as a Breakbeats DJ next to Mexican collectives like Parador Análogo and Jungle Empire, whereas in the field of design and multimedia he was a memeber of Xnografikz. This it is the second EP in Filter of Subnor, who previously published the Split Japo/Masú next to Destreza and a remix in The Novel I Never Wrote. Subnor, in spite of its IDM nature idm prone to certain rythmical chaos, always has had also a introspective and a dreamy accent, which becomes more noticeable in Looking For Drugs in a Wrong Place. Dreamy frequencies and abnormal analogue recreations taken from a sonorous sea framed inside mutant rythms. Subnor’s influences rate from from Solvent to resignified Latin rhythmical structures. From looking for Drugs… Nasty gives an unexpected turn to the instrumental music of Subnor and begins to compose songs of intriguing nature in which his voice complements some of his tracks turning them into personal electronic pop explorations.

Wavespan – Wavespan LP {mtk161}

Artist: Wavespan
Title:
Wavespan LP
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk161
Release Date:
2006/02/19

Definitely one of the classiest Monotonik releases in a while, we’re happy to slip sideways from our normal Scandinavian/European-influenced idm sound into a more ambient, sonorous, consciousnessexpanded universe, thanks to Santa Cruz, California duo Wavespan, aka Phil Garrison and Alex Lumb, and their great self-titled debut LP.

Garrison started producing electronic music in 1998, and he founded Complex Logic Recordings, a small record label, in 2001. His production credits include Organic Resonance Project’s Lucid EP and several remixes as ind01e; in 2005, he designed patches for H.G. Fortune’s (VSTi) STS-21 Transition Synthesizer. Alex Lumb has been drumming for over 20 years, in addition to producing electronic music under various names. Most interestingly as a touchpoint, perhaps, this LP has been mastered by noted ambient musician Robert Rich, helping add to the carefully positioned ethereal drift.

Over the entire 49-minute LP, there are a plethora of high points, but many may be initially fascinated by a rare Monotonik-released dub track up front, in the form of the sparse ‘Concentration Dub’, before the epic 11-minute long ‘On The Nature Of Consciousness’ takes us away with almost Orb-like spoken word samples and some beautifully placed ambience. Other highlights include the mild paranoia of the JFK assassination-sampling ‘Single Bullet Theory’, the straight-ahead groove of ‘Origin Of Species’, and the marvellously placed groove of ‘Momentary Bliss’.

Overall, this is a startlingly professional album which, honestly, almost feels too good for Monotonik, but we’re delighted to release it nonetheless. If you like it, you can visit Wavespan’s page on the Complex Logic site and order a copy of the CD, or simply donate funds of your choice via PayPal to compensate for the more than pleasant listening experience. Hurrah.

Binärpilot – You Can’t Stop Da Funk {CANDY019}

Artist: Binärpilot
Title:
You Can’t Stop Da Funk
Label:
Candy Mind Records
Catalog #:
CANDY019
Release Date:
2006/02/14

This is the story of our Norweigan Candy Miner and superhero Binärpilot. The story begins on the Sunday morning train which is taking Binärpilot to the big church just outside town.

On this particular Sunday morning the story continues in a wild manner as a mysterious alien ninja-force is laser-beaming Binärpilot up to a weird-looking spaceship…and then finally it is all ending with a large bang. Pooof!!

Binärpilot is telling us his story with some help from mind bending electrobeats and funky vocoders. We like it. A lot.

So let’s put on the funky fresh boot and listen when Binärpilot stampar takten med sin fot!

1. BEND
Sometimes a straight thing is better bent than a bent thing bent straight. Binärpilot is giving us a “how to bend things in a orderly fashion without any strain or pain at all”-work out.

2. DESTROY THE POPULLUTION
We all want the popullution to be destroyed, don’t we?

3. MARKELL FIKSEN
Deep down in the darkest corner of the ocean lives Markell Fiksen; a hideous creature never ever heard of in the memory of man. However, Binärpilot has actually met the creature once or twice. This is his topsecret report.

4. ROBOT WARS
Binärpilot is a pilot in a huge war in the sky. He’s on the good side (of course) and at first they seam to win the war, but all of a sudden a blurry mass of shiny beings appears in a distance and they come closer and closer towards the Binärpilot. It’s, it’s …raving mad robots!

Pablo Veron – Nieves {NM003}

Artist: Pablo Veron
Title:
Nieves
Label:
 Natural Media
Catalog #:
 NM003
Release Date:
2006/02/04

Our audio reference belongs to one of the most interesting artists of the new generation of laptopmusicians in Argentina.
We talk to Pablo Verón with his album “Nieves”.
The music is based on samples of a faulty CD track from Debyssy’s work “Des pas sur la neige”.
Throughout the 8 tracks, Pablo lets breath the impressionist spirit of Debussy work which currently appears fresher than ever thanks to technical process such as glitch, microsampling and other secrets. What’s more, the eight tunes of the album come accompanied with a very nice gallery of wallpapers.
Just amazing!

Ernesto Aeroflot – Strogloy – Everything Within {mtk160}

Artist: Ernesto Aeroflot
Title:
Strogloy – Everything Within
Label:
Monotonik
Catalog #:
mtk160
Release Date:
2006/02/04

We’re delighted to welcome a return for Finnish artist Teemu Kiiskilä, aka Ernesto Aeroflot, whose ‘Oll Tolk’n’ no Ding Atcheev’d’ album we released back in 2002, and who is a veteran of other netlabel releases on Commie and Kikapu under multiple aliases. This time round, he’s back with an entire album of wonderfully diverse electronics, ‘Strogloy – Everything Within’, which we’re very pleased to be putting out on Monotonik.

One of the keys to Ernesto Aeroflot’s charms, at least in our eyes, is that his music is distinctly off-kilter – it’s certainly not smooth Warp-like idm or mathematical Detroit techno, but rather carefully mis-shapen and gorgeous all the same. The lead-off track, ‘Odour Is Poison’, comes with a mighty drum rush and scifi movie clinking, before ‘Nick Drake’ segues into spooky, uneasy grooves and the rest of the strange album unfolds. Some of the other highlights include the squelching groove of ‘Shaky Hands’, the actually terrifying catgut yelps of ‘Scream While You’re At It’, and the dark, inspired clanks of the final track, ‘Home – The Solution’.

Thanks again to Ernesto for sharing this album with us, and if you like it, you can go to his own website, give him feedback, and email him to get a full high-quality CD copy of the album, with an exclusive bonus track, ‘Da Mansion fo’ Man’. So there.

Daniel Andréasson – Nackmyalgi {CANDY018}

Artist: Daniel Andréasson
Title:
Nackmyalgi
Label:
Candy Mind Records
Catalog #:
CANDY018
Release Date:
2006/01/24

Daniel andréasson enters the realms of Candy Mind with a suitcase full of mixtapes, a French phrase book and a bunch of other things that we are not allowed to mention here.

He has recently escaped his everyday life as a…ok, well we are not allowed to write about this either so…

Well, let´s just say that we found him wandering about our neighbourhood and then we…no, sorry, STOP – we´re in deep water again…this is too much to write about even for us…

Hmm, you know what? We had better let the music speak for itself.

1. TITTA
When night falls and the sky is clear, Daniel lies down on the lawn to watch the stars glistening far, far away. Is there anybody out there? Do they have green lawns and crimson sunsets just like us? Do they grow carrots and race around their worlds in metal cages? Do they work or are they also on the dole?

2. LOST
One day Daniel woke up to find that one of his favourite sombreros were missing. After eating his breakfast and reading the morning paper he went out looking for it, but got distracted by a butterfly and the beautiful hat was lost forever.

3. SYTTALÖR FEAT HZ
When nobody is watching, Daniel pulls out his traveller´s phrase book and starts to write naughty poems in French. It turns him on and he just can´t help it.

4. SUMMERSHY
Once during the summer in Sweden, Daniel felt very shy all of a sudden. He locked the door to his secret chamber and didn´t come out until four years later when he ran out of food.

5. SOY CONTROLADO POR LA IGLESIA
To honour his mexican ancestors, Daniel composed this solemn hymn about sombreros and habaneros.

6. I HAD A JOB FOR FIVE HOURS
Once Daniel had a job for five hours, and one time he had a job for thirteen hours and the other day Daniel had a job for seven hours and on another occasion he had a job for just three hours and fiftyseven minutes…

7. AIRBAGSONG
It is time for Daniel to tell us a exciting story about his working with airbags. Perhaps you are now thinking that you already know all you need about airbags, but we can assure you that this is not the case.

8. CITRONEN
Daniel is wellknown for his citrus lemonade and if you ever get the chance to meet him be sure to ask for the recipe. He might not be willing to share it at first, but he has got a thing for crazy hats so have one or two ready to trade. It is definately worth it!

8. CHRISTMASLIGHTS AND MIXTAPES
Every year Daniel travels to NYC to buy mixtapes (and some christmaslights for his garden). This is a song about what happened last time he came to the bustling city on the westcoast.
