Supernao + Yolk – Fern Pollen {MOD#19}

Artist: Supernao + Yolk
Title:
Fern Pollen
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#19
Release Date:
1996/06/26

Jeezus. 😛 Although you may have picked this up before, there can be no doubt this tune needs to be released again and again. 😉 Previously, it’s only had a limited edition release on the Internet via Supernao’s homepage, and the ftp site it’s stored on is staffed by microbes transferring data via osmosis, I’m convinced, it’s SO slow! Anyhow, Supernao’s given permission for Mono to give it a _proper_ release, and by God, it’s a stomper. It’s got everything, much like Supernao+Yolk’s famous Boozembly 95 tune. 🙂 Listen, enjoy, repeat til you die, kidz.

Vivid – Your Last Trip {MOD#18}

Artist: Vivid
Title:
Your Last Trip
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#18
Release Date:
1996/06/22

Our first guest-starring Mono release (apart from the remixes of the since-joined Supernao!) is a wicked, weird techno piece by the PC musician Vivid, who’s a member of Kosmic and Radical Rhythms, two of the kicking-est PC music-groups. He’s kindly reduced his composing power to 4 channels to release on Mono, and I really like the result: original and funky, ma maan. Btw, I believe some of the speech in the tune is taken from “The X-Files” TV series, by the way. Whatever that is. 😛 Vivid also told me he skipped school to write the tune. Mono, we’re a danger to your education, ya know. 😉

Subi – Gravity Chick {MOD#17}

Artist: Subi
Title:
Gravity Chick
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#17
Release Date:
1996/06/19

Another of Subi’s delightfully unconventional tunes, and this time it’s a little bit of Babylon Zoo and a little bit of the Trance Europe Express mix of Spooky and Billy Ray Martin. I try not to release tunes that could be construed as ‘just’ sample-mixes, and.. this tune isn’t just a sample-mix. 🙂 It has to be said that I really admire Subi’s style because it’s just so original. And contrary to popular belief, Subi really does exist, he’s just not on the scene at all. 🙂

Oh yeah, and a point to notice, Subi composed this after the Levi’s advert came out but before the Babylon Zoo single was released. We’re retro style-leaders, us. 🙂

Dreamfish – Strange Comings mini-EP {MOD#16}

Artist: Dreamfish
Title:
Strange Comings mini-EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#16
Release Date:
1996/06/15

Another Saturday, another supadupa Mono release hits ya, and this time it’s England vs. Scotland in the football and Dreamfish vs. Paula on your Amiga. Guess who wins? 🙂 I can’t say much else but confirm that Dreamfish is one of the very best 4-channel dance musicians in the world today, woowoo. And there’s still lots and lots more Dreamfish tunes to be released, so keep on keeping on the Mono frequency. Ballistic fatalistic animalistic. 😉 We’ve been keeping off the drum n bass recently, but rest assured the hardstepping will be back with a vengeance soon, with Substance+Dreamfish kicking it bigtime.

Substance – Parallel {MOD#15}

Artist: Substance
Title:
Parallel
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#15
Release Date:
1996/06/12

It’s difficult to find anything to say about this tune, because it’s just so…. mmmmm. The drums, the melodies, the style seem to mesh like Sabres of Paradise managed so well on “Smokebelch”, and Substance is truly the jewel in Mono’s crown. Just you wait til we start releasing his drum n bass tunes, then you’ll truly freek out. 🙂 Overstated, us? never. 😉

Carebear – The Real Love {MOD#14}

Artist: Carebear
Title: The Real Love
Label: Mono
Catalog #: MOD#14
Release Date: 1996/06/08

Here we go again with one of the strangest Mono releases so far, but still a _very_ nice one. Carebear’s got some strange ideas in that twisted little head of his, anyhow. 🙂 This tune is actually quite choppy in a weird way, but it’s flowing too. And lots of nice percussion always makes me feel better after a long day at the office. See, we _do_ come up with something different to the normal trance/jungle output we seem to put out.

TheFoxII – Cascade mini-EP {MOD#13}

Artist: TheFoxII
Title:
Cascade mini-EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#13
Release Date:
1996/06/05

The Justified Ancients of Mono return with a twirling, swirling takedown of a release from The Fox II, who’s decided to deconstruct a certain famous ambient band in his own inimitable style. And by golly, he’s done a smart job. The bonus track, “Habitation”, is another example of the wickedly original hard Dutch style, which I have extreme difficulty in categorising. Apart from it being k00l and the gang, of course. 🙂

Twilight – Inevitable {MOD#12}

Artist: Twilight
Title:
Inevitable
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#12
Release Date:
1996/06/01

Twilight’s giving off some _serious_ good vibes with this hardstepping, longstriding release.. kicking it monostylee. 🙂 He’s also released a strictly hush-hush, get-it-if-you-can unofficial Mono release called m_petrol, which is VERY big and a remix of a rather smart Orbital track. It also trashed my hard disc when I was trying to uujoin it (nothing to do with the file, it’s just my hard drive is dying and I’m looking for something to blame it on!), so don’t expect to see it released officially in the near future (at least until I get a new HD, hehe!) Be aware, Mono bootlegs are appearing all the time. Watch the skies! 🙂
