Subi – Reciprocator {MOD#35}

Artist: Subi
Title:
Reciprocator
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#35
Release Date:
1996/09/05

Subi returns with another unique experience – late analogue synths and tinges of happy hardcore make for an early-Prodigy influenced belter. Listen to the track build, and build, and build.. hmm, ‘A500 Luddism’ sounds pretty, uhh, interesting from where I’m standing. 🙂

Supernao – Superclear {MOD#34}

Artist: Supernao
Title:
Superclear
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#34
Release Date:
1996/08/31

Spookily, I’ve lost all contact with Supernao since his jaunt to England to be at Dan/Anarchy+Lemon’s wedding. Maybe he caught the bouquet? 🙂 In the meantime, I’m releasing one of his mellowest cuts, a track which I think was originally going to be for the Amiga disc-mag “RAW”. Sadly, RAW’s dead, so Mono’s putting the tune out instead. Enjoy.

ChuckB – Streamline {MUL#02}

Artist: ChuckB
Title:
Streamline
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MUL#02
Release Date:
1996/08/28

Part 2.0 of whirldominaschaaan begins with the start of the real Mono multichannel releases, and the first one’s a trancey, beats+feet-led kikker from ChuckB (Australian ex-Kosmic member, no mook at composing, ya know.) And I do believe he’s actually got a 303 (cue for all other Mono members to trample him to the ground. 😛 ) Nice use of an old Otis tune in there, too – in fact, mucho respecto, gringo all round. Am I making sense? 🙂

Release Date:
1996/08/23

About as elektronik as you can get, this LP features conversions of some of the best computer music ever. Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard, Fred Gray.. legends, all of them. We hope you enjoy Dreamfish’s versions of these wicked Commodore 64 SID tunes, anyhow – some of these conversions have been released before, and some haven’t seen the outside of Dreamfishie’s bedroom.) In any case, thanks to the original artists, wherever you may be now. Carpe diem.

Mortimer Twang – Streetjazz {MOD#32}

Artist: Mortimer Twang
Title:
Streetjazz
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#32
Release Date:
1996/08/18

Well, here’s the sister piece to the rather wicked “Streetbeat”, and whereas that tune was a freestyle jam, this one’s a straight-forward example of Mortimer Tee chopping things up like only he can. 🙂 Please note that this tune has been licensed from the Black Sista Allstarz, who are officially(tm) kicking it in 96. 😛 And watch out for more static+reverb-soaked Wu-Twang Clan ramblings in the near future.. murderah!

4TThieves – Dimensions {MOD#31}

Artist: 4TThieves
Title:
Dimensions
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#31
Release Date:
1996/08/15

In time for another guest-artist spot-ahhh (The Fall!), we have 4T Thieves. He’s previously been resident in England, Finland, and now England again, and was formerly an Alcatraz member. You could say he’s a pretty oldskool mofo, having written travel diaries in Anarchy’s “Stolen Data” mag way back when and done a number of cool Jarre mix-ups a while back. 🙂 Anyhow, the electronic ambience of this beatless track is a nice tonic to all the hihats and snares that have been appearing in Mono releases recently..

Twilight – The Go Loop {MOD#30}

Artist: Twilight
Title:
The Go Loop
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#30
Release Date:
1996/08/11

Since Twilight is sitting next to me as I write this, it’s going to be difficult to write anything without feeling very paranoid. 🙂 Anyhow, the tune’s got style, the tune’s got grace, Rita.. oops, I almost started vogueing there. Twilight isn’t peeking, apparently. Oh, and you may well spot a little reference to Hades in the tune. Phew, it’s hot down there. And hot up here too, or would be if ‘they’ cared. Long live the Underworld, err, underground. 🙂

Dreamfish – Ketamin Sunrise EP {MOD#29}

Artist: Dreamfish
Title:
Ketamin Sunrise EP
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MOD#29
Release Date:
1996/08/08

Wow + ee. 🙂 I’d really like to meander off into hyperbole about just how amazing I think this EP is, but I don’t really think that’s appropriate, or necessary – the music speaks for itself. I’ll just satisfy myself with saying that this is one of my favourite Mono releases so far. 🙂

Oh, and please note that Dreamfish is also rather a handy DJ under the name of DJ Hoffman, so try to catch his sets if you happen to live in the West Country, UK, heehee. 🙂 Finally, in case you weren’t aware, Dreamfishie too his name from a brilliant Rising High ambient CD by Mixmaster Morris and Pete Namlook, and his old scene-handle was Hydlide (anyone remember an old Amiga rave-mix by him?) 🙂

X2 – Modulated
Label:
Mono
Catalog #:
MUL#01
Release Date:
1996/08/04

To kick off the multi-channel escapades of Mono, we were lucky enough to get the good Doctor himself to contribute a nice elektronik tune – this is an offcut from the Team17 game “Project X2”, currently being developed for Playstation and Saturn. As I’m sure most of you know, Bjorn is in-house musician at Team17, software company behind a lot of famous old Amiga software and, more recently, “Worms”. Go check out his webpage on the Net at http://www.team17.com/~bjorn if you want to know more about him. 🙂
