Emil Klotzsch – Feinquisit {[one028]}

Artist: Emil Klotzsch
Title:
Feinquisit
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one028]
Release Date:
2006/10/28

Emil marks his return to One with more of the material in which we first got to know him – a spazzy blend of experimentation, disjointed rhythms and instrumentation. His playful but melanchoic spirit brings half-smiles to its listeners through an equally schizophrenic approach to mood and style as perhaps displayed best with his return to vocals on ‘geteiltes sein’.

Feinquisit (while offering glimpses of what will and what was to come on Sandkorn) manages to follow roads we haven’t witnessed from him before – occassionally stripping down to the roots of his off-kilter rhythms and synthwork. In form true to Mr. Klotzsch we also find him collaborating again. This time through the lyrics of Dirk Becker and an accompanying gallery by his father, Manfred Klotzsch.

Plosive – One Remixes {[one027]}

Artist: Plosive
Title:
One Remixes
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one027]
Release Date:
2006/06/19

Collaboration has always been an important factor here at One – whether it’s through music, technology or artwork. In this spirit the return of Plosive brings us a showcase of covers, mixes and overhauls of many favorite releases from the past couple of years – including reworkings of Bad Loop, Jack Haberfield, Iua, Emil Klotzsch, Paranerd, Partikel and Recue.

With much of the source material in hand, they have been made his own through complete reinterpretation – lending to their individuality and personal touch in mood and style. Too often these days original works are masqueraded and passed off as mixes – here the art of the remix is key and in usual Plosive form the sounds are heavily rhythmic and melodic – focused through an alchemy of Dub, IDM, Techno and more.

If:Then:Goto – Another Syntax Error {[one022]}

Artist: If:Then:Goto
Title:
Another Syntax Error
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one022]
Release Date:
2005/11/18

‘Another Syntax Error’ qualifies simply as good song writing. Nothing tech, nothing too fancy – just good production, soulful vocals, inspiration, and catchy choruses. A mixture of brit-indie, guitar, and electronic music taken down his own path.

Finding Paul Benham’s music was like stumbling across a favorite band I had somehow missed. Then I found out it was only one person, an avid songwriter with a prolific output that would be admired by many musicians.

To top it off and spin things up, ‘ASE’ is closed out with 3 remixes from favorite One artists – including Emil Klotzsch, Bad Loop and Recue.

The artwork for this release is presented with the DIY intent to leave some of the actual process and final design to you. With rough guidelines for cutouts (recommended to be printed on light card stock) and printable stickers.

There are a few images included in the download to help give you an idea of where to start. Enjoy yourself, be creative, have fun. You can’t go wrong.

Emil Klotzsch – Sandkorn {[one017]}

Artist: Emil Klotzsch
Title:
Sandkorn
Label:
 One
Catalog #:
[one017]
Release Date:
2005/01/14

Despite the glut of mangled beats and click/glitch sound emerging from Germany on a daily basis, few manage to reveal something soulful and engaging like this debut from Cologne’s Emil Klotzsch. He infuses electronics with recorded instruments that often seems to take an equally obscured touch by the computer. And somehow.. underneath all the schizophrenia of sound – a solidly melodic, mature, and flowing experience is delivered.

As much a collagist as he is a song writer – Sandkorn features guest musicians Malte Weuste (trumpet) + Dominik Böhringer (violin) on ‘fanfarel’ and lends his own vocals to the lush ‘everywhere is shut’. It doesnt stop there though, this release is anything but just another tricked out electronic self-indulgence fest.
