The audio edition (NM005) belongs to the Ampec duo, formed in 2001 by Alejandro Mosso and Cristian Conti in Mendoza, Argentina. A selection of tracks which reflect their more experimental side, mixed with textures and soundscapes. Music that derives from a skillful combination of specific sounds that surround us daily, with sythesised, filtered, processed, and illusory sounds. Music to read to, to dream to, and to travel to. The album comes with a video of the track ‘retigg’ directed by Angeles Casares and Josefina Bietti a.k.a e.S.n.T.m.

Delayscape – Everybody Drops EP {mtk168}

We’re proud to present a Monotonik debut from Danish artist Delayscape, formerly part of the electronic collective Swimwear Catalogue, which has released CDs on April Records and Hypnotic in Denmark. As Delayscape, he’s released on net.labels Acrylik and Clusterflux, and also plays live in a band called Rainscape, but for this first Monotonik EP, ‘Everybody Drops’, it’s terse melodic electro all the way to the bank.

Thus, we start out with the title track, all slow-motion popping and locking, with a distinctly funkier, less idm sound than a lot of recent releases on Monotonik, phasing to the fore, before ‘February One’ loops melodies happily and incessantly, and we move on to the borderline sinister ‘Laugh Track’, regular beats and odd chuckles ahoy.

Finally, we have the semi-glacial ‘Slow..’, which blossoms into a surprisingly beautiful track, and the closing tongue-twister ‘Portamento Portmanteau’, which slides around gloriously in the name of slick electronics. Altogether, a most fun debut from Delayscape, and we hope he’ll be back soon to pretty up the environment with his smart electronics.

Para acabar esta temporada, la nueva netdj!. Una sesión un poco más movidita que las anteriores, para pasarnos lo que queda de verano bailando. Hemos escogido temas de netlabels como pulsewith, sinergy, minlove, offaudio, epsilonlab… como veis es de lo mejorcito.

Y nos vemos ya en septiembre, mañana empiezan mis vacaciones y me esperan casi dos semanas de tranquilidad en formentera, entre amigos. Que ya toca olvidarse un poco de ordenadores, internets etc…
Me llevaré poquita música, para descansar las orejas también, pero esta sesión no faltará, que también hay que pegarse buenas fiestas. También habrá un pequeño acto de cd-crossing en la isla, para dar a conocer este blog y el mundo de los netlabels en general.

With a trapped spirit and a unhealthy love for music, Kapten Ka is giving us wierd and beautiful lofielectro-nica-pop filled with dangerous melodies, screaming beats, unhappy voices and…pumpkins.

This is the first in a quadrology of EPs from the gastronomous Pumpkin festival where Kapten Ka unleashed his 36 tracks in front of a stunned and hungry audience.

We are happy to have gotten our sticky hands on theese rare recordings and will continue to release more material from this remarkable man and his pumpkins.

1. THE PUMPKIN FESTIVAL
For thousands of years, people have set aside a day to celebrate the autumn harvest, giving thanks for a plentiful growing season.
For Kapten Ka the harvest celebrations are culminating in the statewide Pumpkin Festival where he sells pumpkins and CDs after his gig.

2. ANOTHER RACE
This morning Kapten Ka is writing stories about different races, but suddenly something happens and he throws away his papers and runs for cover…

3. LIVING IN RED
If You’re thinking of living in red, think twice!
There are so many other colours and besides, red fluorescent living has a vivid red fluorescence making it ideal for multiple labeling with enhanced green fluorescent living variants.

4. TEAM SATAN
“Each and everyone can make crop circles!” at least according to Kapten Ka. He joined Team Satan during the cold war and has continued to make at least four crop circles per year.

5. BUSH NOT WELCOME
Bush wants to come for a visit, but he is not welcome…

6. THINGS
Music computers are crashing again and again, nothing works as it should and Kapten Ka is pretty upset.

7. SHAVE MY LEGS
Shaving is a personal decision. It’s very normal for women to have dark or thick hair on their bodies. It doesn’t need to be removed unless it really bothers you.
If you feel very strongly about shaving you might want to try to talk to your parents about your concerns at a time when nobody feels rushed or distracted. You can explain to them that you feel uncomfortable with some of your body hair, that shaving is not a sign that that you are “growing up too fast.” You might also want to ask them to understand how important it is that you feel comfortable with your body and how shaving will help you feel more comfortable.

Akira Kosemura – In A Distant Forest EP {mtk167}

One of the first all-ambient releases on Monotonik in quite some time, this 3-track EP from relatively undiscovered Japanese artist Akira Kosemura is a beautifully naturalistic drift through what sounds like field recordings twinned with sweet sine waves melodies – reminiscent of anything from Lackluster at his most ambient to fellow Japanese Monotonik releaser Sabii.

Thus, we have three delicate treats to enjoy – firstly, ‘Forest In The Morning’ has a repeated motif and an almost sepuchral tempo, but overall sounds like the trilling of nature happily at work. Following up, ‘June’ is definitely all about life in the forest, with woodpeckers, and calm, and wonder. Finally, the cutely named ‘Catnap’ strays almost into Brian Eno territory, with shimmering lakes of sound, and bass wandering in to shake your convictions and restore your happiness, all at once.

Overall, a most appetizing debut for Kosemura (who thanks friend Yuma Saito for the cover image to the EP), and the start of what we hope will be a glorious summer for all Monotonik listeners. And try to relax as much as these tracks do, OK?

RICH & VELVETY BROWN POIVRE DELUXE

Ingredients

Olive oil, rape seed oil and butter
150g Red Curry paste (thai)
2 big onions
100 Skum-bananer (foam bananas / Banana Mallows covered with chocolate)
4 big chopped beef patties
4 big chopped salmon fillets
500g cheese
1 top quality Chocolate praline for decoration.

Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish; set aside.

In a large saucepan saute the onions in the curry, olive oil, rape seed oil and butter until the onions are translucent. Add the foam bananas and fry on medium heat for 5 minutes. Stir in the chopped beef patties and salmon fillets and simmer until the meats are tender, about 15 minutes. Add chervil, salt and pepper to taste.
Finally, add the cooked mixture to the baking dish and cover with cheese.
Top with the chocolate praline and bake in a 375 -degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.

Having been associated with Australian electronica chap Tim Koch since all the way back in 1998, when he released .MOD tracks as Serkul (and later as Thug!) on the pre-MP3 version of Monotonik, we’re delighted that he’s returned, just as he releases the ‘Faena’ CD on M3rck Records (North America) and his own-affiliated Surgery Records (Australia), with ‘Elk Meadow EP’, a collection of miscellaneous unreleased smartness from the past few years.

Koch’s other output has included albums and EPs on Aural Industries, U-Cover and N5MD, and this release starts with the wondrous music box of ‘(B) Ramon’, before moving on to the looped vocal weirdness, almost Massive Attack deep, or ‘Lighter Tonight (Remix)’.

Other highlights include the sliding gait of ‘Zephyr On Toast’ and the ending skank of ‘Bullfrog’ – the thing we like about Tim’s music is that it’s generally unclassifiable, and often unexpected, but always refreshing – go check out the M3rck album if you dig any of this release?
