Filtro se fundó en 2004 y actualmente ocupa un lugar de creciente importancia en el ecosistema digital de netlabels internacionales, con proyectos colectivos e individuales de carácter sonoro y gráfico para distribuirse en línea de manera gratuita, y de marzo a noviembre de 2005, con el cambio de servidor, sin contabilizar los primeros seis meses de operación, se registraron más de 50,000 descargas de los tracks publicados, con un total mayor a 360 GB transferidos de MP3s.
La oferta de música en el sitio web, con remixes, eps y sesiones en vivo se ha nutrido con un intenso calendario de producciones, presentaciones en vivo en clubes, festivales, fiestas, ganándose espacios con menciones importantes en los medios especializados: Filtro.com.mx marcó así la diferencia nítida con un sitio de mp3, constituyéndose en un microportal que alojaría a una de las comunidades de artistas sonoros y gráficos con trabajos de calidad mundial.
Exitosas compilaciones, diseñadas bajo la óptica de curadurías, así como trabajos de sólidas personalidades sonoras que en la forma de eps, álbumes y las sinergias del remix, han conformado una oferta consistente y de alta calidad.
El sonido del sello se compone evidentemente de las aportaciones, personales y claramente diferenciadas, de cada uno de sus artistas. Sin embargo, existen varios puntos en donde los intereses que nutren el desarrollo estético de cada uno de los afiliados de Filtro, suelen confluir: por un lado existe una profunda inmersión por parte de estos músicos en la riqueza de cultura músical negra mediante la cual la valorización y la incorporación de elementos tomados del dub, funk y el hip-hop, juega un papel importante. Por otro, está el aprovechamiento de los residuos digitales, llámense glitches, clicks and cuts o lowercase sounds, sonidos indeseados para muchos y usualmente considerados como errores digitales, cuyo empleo en la producción de electrónica representó a nivel global un cambio de paradigmas, dichos sonidos están presentes prácticamente en todas las producciones de Filtro, a partir de éstos se generan fusiones, híbridos, reconstrucciones que resultan en techno minimalista y micro house o que se traducen en intelligent dance music (IDM), sin olvidarnos del Ambient y las exploraciones cercanas al arte sonoro. Además, a partir de esta segunda versión de Filtro, el sello da cabida a nuevos híbridos de pop electrónico nutridos en las diferentes
formas que a lo largo del tiempo ha tomado el pop independiente.
Las experiencias individuales de un roster de artistas que orbita en estos géneros dieron ya un importante nivel de importancia y prestigio en el ámbito internacional, gracias al modelo de netlabel, que en su momento permitió aprovechar una interesante coyuntura para capitalizar el éxito obtenido en internet, donde se alcanzan promedios de descargas de 50 GB de MP3s diarios.
La masterización profesional de los trabajos individuales y colectivos, las expresiones polinizadas de remixes de gran parte de los integrantes del sello en torno de trabajos individuales, han dado buenos resultados, porque avala en su principios fundacionales y filosofía la construcción de una realidad cultural que empezó en internet con un espacio de total libertad creativa que busca difundir el trabajo de artistas de todo el mundo, mientras que las distancias geográficas y entre géneros artísticos se acortan a favor del usuario, y hoy extiende su estrategia al terreno de los productos físicos, con el lanzamiento del doble CD Eversion.

Filtro was founded in 2004 and nowadays it’s positioned in a place of growing importance within the digital ecosystem of international netlabels, with collective and individual graphic and sound projects to be distributed on line with no cost, and from march to november 2005, when changing the Server, without counting the first operating six months, more than 50,000 downloads of the publicated tracks were registered, with a total that overcomes the 360 GB transfered from mp3s.
The music offer in the web site, including remixes, eps and live sessions, has grown with an intense schedule of productions, live presentations in clubs, festivals, parties, winning spaces with important mentions on specialized media: This way, filtro.com.mx, maked clearly the difference with an mp3 web site, making up a micro-site that would have one of the best comunities of graphic and sound artists with works of worldwide quality. Succesful compilations, carefully designed and works of solid sound personalities that in the formats of eps, albums and remixes, have built a consistent and high quality offer.
The sound of the label is composed evidently by the personal and clearlydifferenciated contributions of each one of its artists. Nevertheless, there are some points in which the interests that feed the aesthetic development of each one of filtro’s affiliates come together: on one side there is a profound immersion from these musicians in the wealth of black music culture by which the valuation and the incorporation of elements taken from dub, funk and hip-hop, play an important rol. On the other side, there is the advantage taken from digital residues, called glitches, clicks and cuts or lowercase sounds, unwanted sounds for many and usually considered as digital mistakes, wich use within the electronic production globally represented a change of paradigms, such sounds are present practically in all of filtro’s productions, from these they make fusions, hybrids or reconstructions that end up in minimal techno and micro house or are translated in intelligent dance music (idm), without leaving behind ambient and explorations close to sound art. What’s more, from this second version of filtro, the label opens up to new hybrids of electronic pop fed in the different ways that along has taken independent pop music.
The individual experiences of a roster of artists that orbits within this genres have reached already an important level of prestige in the internacional scene, thanks to the netlabel model, that once allowed to take advantage of an interesting conjuction to capitalize the success obtained from internet, where the average of mp3 downloads reach 50 GB daily.
The professional mastering of individual and collective works, the expresion’s fusion of remixes from many of the integrated to the label refering to individual works, have given great results because it guaranties in its fundational principles and philosophy the construction of a cultural reality that tries to propagate the work of artists all over the world, while geographical distances and among artistic genres are shorten for the user’s sake, and today extents its strategy to the field of physical products, with the presentation of the double cd “Eversion”.
